Lieberman Calls for Israeli Preparedness for New War Against Iran
Former Defense Minister warns of inevitable second campaign, urges policy overhaul and return to targeted assassinations
Iran, PUREWILAYAH.COM — In a speech delivered during a Knesset plenary session on Monday, Avigdor Lieberman, head of the far-right “Israel Beiteinu” party and former Israeli Defense Minister, called on the occupation government to begin immediate preparations for a second military campaign against Iran.
“We have a maximum of three years until the next campaign against Iran,” Lieberman declared. “This means the Israeli government must change all of its priorities starting now,” he added, framing the timeline as a strategic window that must not be wasted.
Speaking later to the Hebrew-language newspaper Maariv, Lieberman warned that Iran is already planning retaliation for previous Israeli actions. “Iran is determined to take revenge. That’s what drives them. These are not theoretical threats,” he said. “Israel must prepare for the next phase against Iran, which will be more complex and more difficult.”
Focus on Gaza: Military pressure no longer enough
Shifting his attention to the ongoing war in Gaza, Lieberman called on the government to secure the return of all Zionist prisoners. “If military pressure has exhausted itself, then what are we still doing there?” he asked, implying that a purely military approach is no longer sufficient to achieve Israeli goals in the Strip.
Return to assassination doctrine
Lieberman also advocated for a renewed policy of targeted assassinations, referencing recent Israeli military actions in southern Lebanon. “We must adopt a similar policy to what we used in Lebanon. Since the ceasefire, the army has eliminated 200 Hezbollah members,” he said.
He further stressed, “We will hunt down every terrorist who participated in the October 7 massacre—until the last day of his life,” signaling support for expanding Israel’s assassination campaign to commanders of the Resistance in Gaza once a ceasefire is reached.
Lieberman’s remarks come at a time of increasing internal division within the Israeli leadership and growing skepticism about the long-term effectiveness of the current military strategy against Gaza and Iran. (PW)
