Lebanese Soldier Martyred in Israeli Attacks on Southern Lebanon
Israeli Airstrikes Kill Army Sergeant and Civilians as Tel Aviv Continues Massive Ceasefire Violations
Lebanon, PUREWILAYAH.COM - A Lebanese Army soldier was martyred and three civilians killed in Israeli airstrikes targeting southern Lebanon, as Tel Aviv continues to violate the ceasefire with Lebanon on a massive scale, according to United Nations records.
Lebanese Army Confirms Martyrdom of Staff Sergeant Ali Abdullah
The Lebanese Armed Forces announced on Tuesday the martyrdom of Ali Abdullah, a Staff Sergeant serving in the Support Brigade’s Anti-Armor Regiment.
According to the army’s statement, Abdullah was martyred after an Israeli airstrike targeted the vehicle he was traveling in on the Quneitra–Maamariyeh–Sidon road in southern Lebanon.
The attack, carried out by an Israeli drone, killed three people in total, including the Lebanese soldier, in what officials described as a blatant violation of Lebanese sovereignty.
Israeli Drone Strike Targets Civilian Vehicle
Lebanese authorities confirmed that the Israeli drone strike hit a civilian vehicle, once again demonstrating Israel’s routine targeting of civilian infrastructure and non-combatants under various pretexts.
Officials stressed that the attack occurred despite the existence of a ceasefire, highlighting Israel’s continued disregard for agreements and international obligations.
Ceasefire Under Systematic Israeli Assault
The latest attack comes amid ongoing Israeli violations of the ceasefire that came into effect on November 27, 2024.
According to United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL), Israel has committed more than 10,000 ceasefire violations since the truce began.
These include:
Over 7,500 airspace violations, involving Israeli drones and warplanes
Nearly 2,500 ground violations north of the Blue Line
UN human rights experts have repeatedly warned that these violations have resulted in mounting civilian casualties and extensive infrastructure damage across southern Lebanon.
Civilian Harm and Destabilization Continue
Israeli air and drone strikes have persisted across southern Lebanon and other regions, striking civilian vehicles, residential homes, and agricultural land, and preventing the stabilization envisioned under the ceasefire framework.
Lebanese authorities and international observers note that Israel’s continued aggression has:
Displaced civilians in border areas
Undermined efforts to implement the truce
Obstructed the full deployment of the Lebanese Army in the south
The ongoing Israeli attacks are widely viewed as part of a broader strategy of military pressure and intimidation, in direct violation of international law, further destabilizing Lebanon’s already fragile security situation.
Occupation Tactics Extend Beyond Gaza
The killing of a Lebanese soldier under a declared ceasefire reinforces concerns that Israel is exporting its model of impunity, seen in Gaza and Palestine, to neighboring countries—using drones, airstrikes, and repeated violations to impose military dominance while evading accountability.
As Lebanese soldiers and civilians continue to pay the price, calls are growing for international action to halt Israeli violations and uphold Lebanon’s sovereignty. (PW)
