Lebanese MP: U.S. Providing Cover for Israel’s Crimes as Resistance Upholds Ceasefire
The Senior Amal Movement official condemns Washington’s complicity in Israeli violations and reaffirms unity between the Resistance and Lebanese state institutions ahead of national elections.
Lebanon, PUREWILAYAH.COM — Lebanese MP Ali Hassan Khalil, political aide to Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri and senior figure in the Amal Movement, has accused the United States of providing full political cover for Israel’s ongoing crimes and violations of Lebanese sovereignty.
In an interview with Al Mayadeen, Khalil stated that “anyone who believes that Israel has adhered to the ceasefire is mistaken,” confirming that the occupation army continues to commit acts of aggression and incursions into southern Lebanon despite the truce.
“The Resistance has adhered to the ceasefire with full commitment,” he said, citing reports from both the Lebanese Army and UNIFIL that confirm Lebanon’s strict compliance with the agreement — in stark contrast to Israeli behavior.
Resistance Commitment vs. Israeli Aggression
Khalil welcomed the recent remarks by Lebanese President Joseph Aoun, who called on the Lebanese Army to confront Israeli violations, describing the move as “a first step toward a new national equation uniting all Lebanese under one defense vision.”
He emphasized that Israel’s continued aggression exposes the reality of Washington’s role in the region, asserting, “Israel acts confidently only because the United States provides it with political cover for its wars against Lebanon and other countries.”
The senior lawmaker did not rule out the possibility of a wider conflict, warning that the situation on the ground “reflects a high level of escalation that demands utmost caution.”
Rejecting Normalization, Upholding Resistance Principles
Reaffirming Lebanon’s steadfast stance, Khalil categorically rejected any form of normalization with the Israeli occupation, stressing that “Lebanon must remain firm in supporting a ceasefire mechanism that obliges Israel to halt its aggression, without falling into the trap of direct negotiations.”
He also referred to the “mechanism committee” established after previous conflicts as a means for Lebanon to manage ceasefire implementation without legitimizing Israel’s occupation or engaging in direct talks.
U.S. Complicity and Post-War Scenarios
The former minister noted that certain diplomatic arrangements may emerge similar to those that followed the July 2006 war, but reiterated that any future agreements must ensure Lebanon’s sovereignty and protect the Resistance’s right to defend the country.
He accused Washington of pursuing a dual agenda — preaching de-escalation while empowering Israel to continue its crimes — and called on Arab and international actors to expose this hypocrisy.
Elections and National Unity
On domestic affairs, Khalil confirmed that parliamentary elections must be held on schedule, emphasizing that the Amal Movement and Hizbullah will run jointly across all electoral districts to preserve Lebanon’s stability and unity.
He warned that attempts to alter the current electoral law represent “a direct attack on the core structure of the Lebanese political system,” and criticized certain factions for hypocrisy, noting that “those now calling for change were the same who once approved this law.”
Khalil also highlighted that many Lebanese abroad are still deprived of their voting rights, while questioning the caretaker government’s ability to fulfill its responsibilities.
Attacks on Berri Reveal Opponents’ Weakness
Concluding his remarks, Khalil said that personal attacks against Speaker Nabih Berri stem from the “weakness and bankruptcy of the opposing side,” accusing the Lebanese Forces party of deliberately obstructing state institutions and harming public interests.
He called on the government to prioritize reconstruction, the return of displaced citizens to border areas, and the allocation of necessary resources to rebuild what Israel has destroyed.
“The state’s duty is clear,” Khalil declared. “It must stand with its people — those who have stood steadfast on the southern frontlines — against the aggression backed and protected by Washington.” (PW)
