Leader: America's Broken Promises Have Made the US President's Signature 'Worthless'
Ayatollah Mojtaba Khamenei says Washington's violations of the Islamabad MoU expose its true face, and calls national unity the country's most fundamental priority
The Leader of the Islamic Revolution, Ayatollah Sayyed Mojtaba Khamenei, has said that the United States’ repeated violations of the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) have once again proven the American president’s signature to be “utterly worthless and invalid.”
In a statement on Saturday, the Leader said US actions had exposed that “bullying, hegemony, and savagery” are inseparable components of American behaviour.
“Today, the Great Satan has once again revealed its true and unmasked face,” he said. “This dark experience of crime and broken promises serves as yet another solid document of America’s dishonesty, irrationality, untrustworthiness, and vileness.”
He said the Iranian nation and the Resistance Front held “unforgettable lessons” in store for the American enemy, pointing to the courage of Islam’s warriors and the resolve of the people of southern Iran as recent examples. Now that the enemy was seeking to foment war and incur heavier costs and further humiliation, he said, it should know that Iran and the Resistance Front held such lessons for it — lessons demonstrated in recent days by the valour of the warriors of Islam and the zeal of the brave people of the southern region.
‘Sacred unity’ a fundamental priority
Ayatollah Khamenei stressed that preserving national unity was among the country’s most fundamental priorities at the present juncture. Maintaining “sacred unity” at all levels of society and government, he said, was essential to realising the ideals of the Islamic Revolution and safeguarding Iran’s dignity and independence in the face of the “criminal and deceitful American enemy.”
Officials, along with those devoted to the Islamic Revolution, Imam Khomeini and the martyred Leader Ayatollah Sayyed Ali Khamenei, bore an even greater responsibility for preserving the country’s cohesion, he said. He called on the public to remain vigilant and active in safeguarding the interests of the Islamic Republic, saying the nation would do so by continuing to trust the officials of all three branches of government, whose efforts for the welfare of the country were evident.
The Leader acknowledged that some people, in complete sincerity and goodwill, might hold criticisms of the performance of certain officials, describing such concern for the establishment as a “valuable asset” — but he urged caution. Those with criticisms, he said, must be careful “not to cause a fracture in national unity and social cohesion,” and with that consideration observed, criticism would serve progress and flourishing.
“The enemy must not sense any sign of weakness from us,” he added. “Whenever we fully observe these precautions, he will inevitably be forced into retreat and defeat.”
Funeral of the martyred Leader a ‘historic epic’
The Leader also praised the nation’s unprecedented participation in the funeral processions and farewell ceremonies for the martyred Leader, describing the turnout as “a historic epic and an unprecedented public outpouring” that demonstrated the people’s appreciation, loyalty, insight and profound affection for him.
The millions who gathered across Tehran, Qom, Mashhad and other cities and villages, he said, had won the admiration of the Iranian nation’s friends while leaving its enemies “astonished, confused, angry and fearful.”
He expressed gratitude to senior religious authorities, scholars, intellectuals, and cultural, social, and political figures, as well as to civilian and military institutions, for their contributions to the ceremonies. He further thanked officials and representatives of the Axis of Resistance and Islamic movements for taking part, and voiced hope that all who had joined, supported, or stood in solidarity with the historic event would be blessed with divine favour.
