Last-Minute U.S. Maneuvers and Testing Iran’s Resolve
The media push appears aimed at testing Iran’s resolve—whether Tehran would abandon the agreed framework and accept broader talks beyond the nuclear file.
United States, PUREWILAYAH.COM - According to Tasnim News Agency, over the past several hours the United States has launched an intense media and psychological campaign regarding the possible cancellation—or continuation—of Friday’s talks in Muscat.
This comes despite the fact that Washington had previously accepted both the venue (Muscat) and the framework of the negotiations, namely that the talks would be strictly limited to the nuclear issue.
Based on available indications, the Americans—alongside Israel—appear to have used this media operation primarily to test Iran’s resolve: whether Tehran would retreat from its principled position on the agreed framework and yield to U.S. and Israeli demands to expand the talks to include Iran’s defensive capabilities and other issues.
Iranian officials emphasized in recent hours that such U.S. tactics reflect a lack of seriousness, stressing that Iran will not back down from the previously agreed negotiating framework.
It now appears that the United States and Israel, after witnessing Iran’s firm and unwavering stance, ultimately reverted to accepting the original framework, leading to the finalization of the talks.
Moments ago, Abbas Araghchi announced that nuclear negotiations between Iran and the United States will be held on Friday at approximately 10:00 a.m. in Muscat. (PW)
