Larijani: Sharm el-Sheikh Summit Was Too Low-Level for Iran’s Participation
Top Iranian official slams U.S. hypocrisy, Arab complicity, and UN silence. He emphasized that Trump and his Arab allies bear direct responsibility for the suffering in Gaza and the wider region.
Iran, PUREWILAYAH.COM — Iran’s Secretary of the Supreme National Security Council, Ali Larijani, delivered a powerful speech on Thursday at a ceremony honoring Martyr Hossein Hamedani, known as Habib al-Haram, highlighting Iran’s decisive role in confronting regional terrorism and foreign plots against the Islamic Republic.
Larijani asserted that terrorist groups had always targeted Iran as their main objective, aiming to destabilize the nation’s security.
“They wanted to destroy the security of the Iranian people. These were the same groups that tried to bomb the shrine of Imam Zaynab (peace be upon her). They were crushed. Daesh was defeated in the region, and security was restored because Iran acted wisely and struck the terrorists beyond its borders,” he said.
“Some Events Are Meant to Test Nations”
Referring to recent events, Larijani said that hardships are part of divine tradition meant to strengthen nations.
“In divine traditions, there is no room for doubt. Sometimes certain events must occur so that nations are tested and refined,” he noted.
Why Iran Rejected the Sharm el-Sheikh Summit
Larijani explained Iran’s decision to boycott the recent Sharm el-Sheikh conference, saying the event was unworthy of the Islamic Republic’s presence and hypocritical in nature.
“First, the meeting was too low-level for Iran’s participation. Second, after two years of a brutal war on the Palestinian people — with around 70,000 martyrs — these very same powers now put on the mask of ‘peace seekers.’ Is this a joke? You killed them, besieged them, and now you pretend to seek peace?”
He emphasized that Trump and his Arab allies bear direct responsibility for the suffering in Gaza and the wider region.
“Trump sees Arab countries only in terms of money,” he said, recalling Henry Kissinger’s words that “the Middle East can be left to the Arabs, but its oil must remain in our hands.”
“This materialistic logic that began with modernity has produced today’s oppression,” Larijani added.
“The UN Security Council Has No Value”
Criticizing the United Nations Security Council, Larijani condemned its inaction during wars and aggression against Iran.
“They claimed to have established a system to prevent war, yet during the war against Iran, did the Security Council act? It refused to even issue a proper statement. Only when China and Russia intervened was anything blocked,” he said.
“The Security Council is worthless. What they are building is a modern form of domination. When Trump says he wants peace through power — this is not peace; it’s tyranny. Wasn’t that exactly what Hitler said?”
Lessons from the 12-Day War
Larijani praised the heroic performance of Iran’s armed forces during the 12-day war, describing it as a strategic defeat for the Zionist regime.
“Three main factors led to the enemy’s failure: the unity of our people, the spirit of sacrifice among our armed forces — who are the very sons of Martyr Hamedani — and the wise leadership that managed the battle skillfully,” he explained.
He revealed that U.S. and Israeli planning for the recent war had been ongoing for years, but Iran’s preparedness and leadership thwarted their objectives.
“The Enemy Seeks to Distort Iran’s Achievements”
Larijani warned of coordinated media efforts to downplay Iran’s success and rewrite the narrative of the war.
“Foreign sources, including Zionist security foundations, acknowledged the large number of missiles launched by Iran and the extensive interception attempts by the enemy,” he said, referring to the book Under Fire published by Israeli institutions.
He added that even based on the enemy’s own figures — 273 intercepts out of 574 missiles — around 300 Iranian missiles hit their targets, showing the effectiveness of Iran’s strike capability.
“The enemy tries to focus only on limited sensitive hits to obscure the overall success of Iran’s operation,” Larijani explained, stressing that Israel’s interceptor reserves suffered serious depletion.
According to him, about 25% of Israel’s interception stockpiles were supplied by the United States, and it will take up to 1.5 years to replenish them, leaving the occupation regime deeply dependent on American systems and logistics.
“Missile Capability Is Non-Negotiable”
Addressing U.S. demands to limit Iran’s missile range, Larijani firmly rejected any compromise.
“The demand to reduce missile range is, in reality, a call for surrender and a stripping of our national security,” he said.
“Resisting these pressures and preserving our missile power is part of defending national interests and public security.”
He concluded by stressing that unity and collective resolve are essential for defending Iran’s sovereignty.
“To face such pressures, we must remain united and speak with one voice,” Larijani declared. (PW)
