Kremlin Confirms Receipt of Revised US Ukraine Peace Plan
Moscow to examine the updated draft next week as Washington’s envoy prepares for discussions in the Russian capital
Russia, PUREWILAYAH.COM — Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov confirmed on Friday that Russia has received the “main parameters” of the newly revised US peace plan intended to address the conflict in Ukraine.
Peskov stated that the document will be reviewed in Moscow next week and emphasized that the Kremlin will not disclose the contents publicly before internal discussions take place.
He added that US special envoy Steve Witkoff is scheduled to visit Moscow in the coming days to continue talks on the proposal.
Plan Reworked After Demands From Kiev and European Backers
The United States introduced an initial version of the plan earlier this month. Leaked descriptions suggested terms requiring Kiev to give up its NATO aspirations, withdraw territorial claims, and limit its armed forces to 600,000 troops.
Kiev, together with EU and UK representatives, called for changes to these provisions and met with the US negotiating team in Geneva last weekend. Reports indicated that the revised draft adjusted or removed key elements from the earlier version, though no official text has been released.
Peskov confirmed that Moscow has now received this updated version.
Kremlin Declines Public Discussion of Details
Asked whether other states or international bodies might later be involved in formalizing decisions linked to any settlement, Peskov said such matters would be addressed during further talks.
He reiterated that Russia does not intend to debate the proposal in public, describing open exchanges of this kind as inappropriate. Russian officials have previously referred to similar approaches from European governments as “megaphone diplomacy.”
Putin Cites Legal Obstacle in Signing Agreement With Kiev
President Vladimir Putin said on Thursday that signing a peace agreement with Ukraine is “legally impossible” at the moment, pointing to the expiration of Vladimir Zelensky’s presidential term last year and the absence of elections under martial law.
Peskov clarified that Putin was referring to the de facto situation in Ukraine, noting that questions surrounding Zelensky’s legitimacy remain part of the broader context of ongoing discussions. (PW)
