Kim Vows Faster Military Buildup, Warns of US-ROK Push for Nuclear Confrontation
Kim Jong Un says Washington and Seoul's military expansion, including plans for nuclear-powered submarines, is pushing the Korean Peninsula toward nuclear confrontation.
DPRK, PUREWILAYAH.COM – The Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK) has reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening its national defense capabilities, warning that growing military cooperation between the United States and the Republic of Korea (ROK) is pushing the Korean Peninsula toward the brink of nuclear conflict.
The position was outlined by DPRK leader Kim Jong Un during a three-day meeting of the Workers’ Party of Korea that concluded on Monday and reviewed key issues related to national defense, regional security, and strategic deterrence.
According to the Korean Central News Agency (KCNA), Kim reaffirmed the party and state’s policy of accelerating the development of national defense capabilities.
Kim Cites US-ROK Military Expansion
Kim pointed to expanding military coordination between Washington and Seoul, including efforts by the ROK to acquire nuclear-powered submarines, as evidence of an increasingly hostile military posture toward the DPRK.
According to KCNA, Kim said the United States and the ROK are advancing plans related to the ROK’s possession of a nuclear submarine while continuing to strengthen and modernize military forces in the region.
He warned that these developments are pushing the situation on the Korean Peninsula toward what he described as the brink of a nuclear war.
Against this backdrop, Kim stated that strengthening the country’s self-defense capabilities remains a strategic necessity.
He reaffirmed what KCNA described as the DPRK’s steadfast position to further expand and strengthen a powerful and reliable deterrent for self-defense.
Workers’ Party Reaffirms Nuclear Deterrent Policy
KCNA reported that the Workers’ Party meeting unanimously concluded that continuously expanding and strengthening the country’s nuclear forces remains the most effective way to respond to what it described as unpredictable international military and political conditions.
The agency added that the DPRK’s deterrent capability, developed on the basis of nuclear technology, would continue advancing at an increasing pace.
The latest remarks reinforce Pyongyang’s long-standing position that its nuclear capabilities are essential to safeguarding national sovereignty and preventing external military pressure.
DPRK Reiterates Nuclear Status Is Non-Negotiable
The DPRK has repeatedly declared its nuclear status irreversible since the collapse of talks between Kim Jong Un and Donald Trump in Hanoi in 2019.
Earlier this month, Kim Yo Jong, director of the General Affairs Department of the Workers’ Party of Korea, described the country’s nuclear policy as a “line of no retreat,” stressing that its nuclear arsenal is not subject to negotiations conducted under pressure.
Meanwhile, ROK President Lee Jae Myung revealed that US President Donald Trump told him during a meeting on the sidelines of the G7 summit that it was time to pay greater attention to the issue of the DPRK.
Lee also said he told Trump that sanctions imposed on the DPRK had proven ineffective and that the country’s nuclear issue could no longer be approached in the same manner as other international nuclear disputes. (PW)
