Kim Jong Un Oversees Major North Korean Artillery Drill
North Korean leader lauds frontline artillery units and emphasizes war-readiness through realistic, high-intensity training
North Korea, PUREWILAYAH.COM - Kim Jong Un, leader of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK), supervised a large-scale artillery firing contest involving sub-units of the Korean People’s Army (KPA) on May 29, highlighting the regime’s ongoing emphasis on military modernization and combat preparedness.
The contest was conducted amid intensified army-wide training initiatives aligned with the Workers' Party of Korea's (WPK) long-standing policy to develop a powerful and self-reliant military force.
Senior Military Leadership Present at the Scene
The event was attended by top DPRK military officials, including Pak Jong Chon, Secretary of the Central Committee of the WPK and Vice-Chairman of the Central Military Commission.
Kim was greeted at the site by No Kwang Chol, Minister of National Defence, Ri Yong Gil, Chief of the General Staff, and Jong Kyong Thaek, Director of the General Political Bureau of the KPA, along with other senior military and political commanders of the country’s frontline units.
The contest was directly commanded by leaders of large combined units stationed near the frontlines.

Artillery Performance Showcases Combat Capabilities
According to state media, the artillery sub-units showcased advanced firing skills honed through rigorous training under the "training-first" policy of the WPK.
The drills were designed to simulate real battlefield conditions and assess the units’ ability to strike targets with precision.
Kim Jong Un praised the troops for their “perfect demonstration of actual war capabilities”, noting that the KPA artillery force had reached a state of full combat readiness.
He also expressed satisfaction with the thorough implementation of a scientific combat training system across the military, aligned with the evolving demands of modern warfare.
Training as a Pillar of Loyalty and Strength
Kim emphasized the importance of frequent, realistic, and intense drills, calling them an expression of absolute loyalty to the Party, the revolution, the nation, and its people.
“Organizing firing contests close to the actual warfare environment is vital to turning artillerymen into all-round fighters, capable of striking targets in any condition,” Kim stated, according to KCNA.
He reaffirmed that the military must remain ever-ready and that strengthening training standards is the “shortcut to building a powerful army.”
A Vision for a Modern, Ideologically Committed Force
Looking ahead, Kim Jong Un called on all military units to raise a generation of “training heroes and combat heroes” — soldiers equipped with not just technical and physical capabilities, but also strong ideological resolve and militant spirit.
He concluded by expressing confidence that this approach would ensure the military remains a key pillar in supporting the comprehensive development and defense of the DPRK. (PW)
