Kim Jong Un Inspects Sniper Units, Oversees Special Operations Training
Kim reviewed elite sniper and special forces training, inspected new rifles, oversaw drills, and urged modernization, tactical refinement, and plans for a central sniper training center.
North Korea, PUREWILAYAH.COM — Kim Jong Un, General Secretary of the Workers’ Party of Korea (WPK) and President of the State Affairs of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK), inspected a special operations training base under the General Staff of the Korean People’s Army (KPA) on August 27, where he reviewed sniper and special operations unit training.
Visit to Training Base and Equipment Inspection
Kim was accompanied by senior WPK officials, including Jo Chun Ryong, Secretary of the WPK Central Committee, and Kim Jong Sik, First Deputy Department Director of the WPK Central Committee. He was received by No Kwang Chol, Minister of National Defence, and Ri Yong Gil, Chief of the KPA General Staff.
At the base, Kim met members of the sniper sub-unit and the special operations sub-unit assigned to special duties, inspecting their military equipment and observing training activities.
He examined a newly developed sniper rifle produced by the DPRK Academy of Defence Science in 2025, praising its high-precision, long-range capabilities, ergonomic improvements, and enhanced tactical performance.
“The sniper forces have a very important duty in the combat capability of the units,” Kim said, describing the sniper as “a specially selected soldier ready for independent and proactive military actions, like a hunter eliminating enemy soldiers with battlefield marksmanship.”
He emphasized the need to strengthen special operations and sniper forces in the future.

Plans for Central Sniper Training Center
Kim stated that the WPK Central Military Commission would consider establishing a Central Sniper Training Center under the KPA General Staff.
He stressed that concentration and keen observation are essential qualities for snipers, calling for training that develops environmental awareness, endurance, and focus.
He outlined a “correct training methodology” covering target selection, concealment, movement, shooting platform construction, observation techniques using various equipment, precision long-range shooting, and coordinated attack and defense between sniper teams and sub-units. He urged the intensification of specialized, scientific training to improve combat readiness.
Kim also directed the Ministry of National Defence to supply quality camouflaged uniforms to sniper units this year, adapted to operational environments and seasonal conditions.
Modernization and Combat Readiness
Calling the modernization of military equipment an urgent priority for war preparedness, Kim underlined the need to implement the Party’s policy of revolutionizing training, ideology, and equipment.
“It is essential to prepare the special operations forces to be the pivotal and core forces for fighting a war,” he said.
He added that in order to maintain an “absolute upper hand” over special forces of other countries, the KPA must innovate combat methods, modernize weaponry, and ensure soldiers master new strategies.
Live-Fire and Physical Training Demonstrations
During the visit, Kim oversaw a live-fire sniper drill, praising the marksmanship of the unit. “They are really good at shooting, and no enemy will survive within their sight,” he remarked. He also observed physical training exercises by the special operations unit, which he said demonstrated the combatants’ readiness as “an invincible combat unit and advance detachment of the revolutionary army.”
Following the drills, Kim expressed appreciation for the soldiers’ commitment to the Party’s vision for special operations forces. He posed for group photos with the units, during which soldiers pledged loyalty to the WPK Central Committee leadership.
He congratulated three snipers for their exceptional long-range accuracy, taking individual photos with them, and later joined the officers and soldiers of the sniper sub-unit for another photo session.
Commitment to Future Operations
The visit concluded with Kim encouraging the troops to maintain peak readiness and instill fear in their adversaries. The soldiers reaffirmed their determination to strengthen their capabilities as “core arms of the KPA” and to defend the DPRK’s sovereignty and revolution. (PW)
