Khalil al-Hayya Leads Funeral Prayer for Son and Martyrs of Doha Assassination Attempt
According to a Hamas statement, the funeral prayer was held after Asr (afternoon) prayers under special security arrangements coordinated by Qatari authorities.
Qatar, PUREWILAYAH.COM — On Friday, senior Hamas leader Khalil al-Hayya led the funeral prayer for his son, Humam, and several other martyrs killed in the recent Israeli assassination attempt on a Hamas delegation in the Qatari capital, Doha.
Funeral Prayer and Burial
According to a Hamas statement, the funeral prayer was held at the Mohammed bin Abdul Wahhab Grand Mosque after Asr (afternoon) prayers, under special security arrangements coordinated by Qatari authorities.
The martyrs were later buried at the Mesaimeer Cemetery in Doha.
The funeral was attended by Qatar’s Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, his personal representative Sheikh Jassim bin Hamad Al Thani, the Minister of Interior and Commander of the Internal Security Force (Lekhwiya) Sheikh Khalifa bin Hamad Al Thani, senior Hamas leaders, and thousands of mourners from both citizens and residents of Qatar.
The Israeli Strike in Doha
The funeral followed Tuesday’s Israeli airstrike, which targeted the residence of Hamas leaders in Doha with multiple missiles.
At the time, the Hamas delegation was reportedly discussing a ceasefire proposal presented by U.S. President Donald Trump.
While Hamas confirmed that its delegation led by Khalil al-Hayya survived, the attack claimed the lives of his son Humam al-Hayya, his office director Jihad Lubad, and three members of his security detail: Abdullah Abdul Wahid, Moamen Hassouna, and Ahmad Abdul Malik. In addition, a Qatari internal security officer, Warrant Officer Badr Saad Muhammad al-Humaidi, was martyred.
Hamas condemned the attack as a “treacherous assassination attempt” by Israel, while emphasizing that the sacrifices of its leaders and members only strengthen the movement’s resolve to continue resistance. (PW)
