Israel’s Incursion into Quneitra Sparks Global Outcry Over Violation of Syria’s Sovereignty
Military advances and airstrikes draw united condemnation from international and regional powers, warning of destabilisation across the Middle East.
Syria, PUREWILAYAH.COM - Israeli forces have advanced into multiple towns and villages in Syria’s strategic southwestern province of Quneitra, briefly occupying areas before withdrawing in a move widely condemned as a flagrant breach of international law.
According to the Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA), convoys of Israeli military vehicles moved from the Tel Ahmar base towards the Bariqa–Kudna road, establishing checkpoints and searching residents. Other units raided the village of Ruwayhina, advanced toward Rasm al-Halabi in central Quneitra, and entered al-Rafid from al-Hiran via the al-Asha crossing. Tanks also took up positions on the outskirts of Ruwayhina before withdrawing along with the rest of the forces.
The incursions come against the backdrop of escalating Israeli airstrikes across Syria—ostensibly in support of the country’s Druze minority—amid deadly clashes between Druze communities and Bedouin tribes that have claimed hundreds of lives. Critics fear the involvement is aimed at deepening divisions and further destabilising Syria.
International Condemnation
The move has triggered swift and widespread condemnation from global organizations, Muslim nations, and resistance movements:
United Nations Security Council (UNSC) — Pakistan, as the rotating president, denounced the aggression, likening it to Israeli actions in Gaza, Lebanon, Iran, and Yemen. UN officials, including Mohamed Khaled Khiari, stressed that the attacks violate Syria’s sovereignty, breach the 1974 disengagement agreement, and undermine stability.
China — Called for an immediate end to Israeli military strikes and withdrawal from Syrian territory, warning against further regional crisis.
Turkey — President Recep Tayyip Erdogan labeled Israel a “terror state,” accusing it of using the Druze as a pretext to expand “banditry” into Syria and vowing to oppose any partition of the country.
Persian Gulf Cooperation Council (PGCC) — Warned of “irresponsible escalation” and disregard for international stability efforts.
Palestinian Resistance Movements — Hamas and Islamic Jihad condemned the actions as “systematic terrorism,” pledging solidarity with Syria’s right to resist.
Ansarullah (Yemen) — Framed the strikes as part of an “imperialist scheme” to dominate the Arab and Muslim world, calling for a unified Arab-Islamic response.
Muslim States Unite
Foreign ministers from Jordan, UAE, Bahrain, Turkey, Saudi Arabia, Iraq, Oman, Qatar, Kuwait, Lebanon, and Egypt held intensive talks, seeking a unified stance. They reaffirmed support for Syria’s security, unity, and sovereignty, urged the UNSC to act decisively, and demanded Israel’s withdrawal in compliance with the 1974 agreement.
Malaysia warned that Israeli actions threaten regional and global peace, while Norway expressed deep concern over the strikes and rising tensions.
A Pattern of Aggression
Since the collapse of the Assad government, Israel has carried out repeated airstrikes on Syrian military facilities, seizing opportunities created by the chaos to expand its influence in the region. The latest Quneitra incursions mark another step in what many see as a calculated strategy to weaken Syria’s territorial integrity while testing the limits of international response.
As calls for accountability grow louder, the international community faces renewed pressure to address what critics describe as unchecked Israeli impunity—a challenge that could define the next phase of Middle Eastern geopolitics. (PW)
