Israeli Warplanes Bomb Southern Lebanon Amid Renewed Escalation
Lebanese Deputy PM Confirms US Failure to Enforce Ceasefire as “Israel” Intensifies Cross-Border Aggression
LEBANON, PUREWILAYAH.COM – Israeli occupation warplanes carried out a new wave of airstrikes late Monday targeting the areas of al-Jarmak and al-Mahmoudiya in southern Lebanon.
Field sources reported that the air raids struck open and agricultural areas near the border, sparking widespread panic among civilians.
While no immediate casualties were reported, the strikes mark another episode in the ongoing Israeli escalation against Lebanon’s southern front.
In a related development, Israeli occupation forces opened fire from their military outpost in al-Sumaqa toward the outskirts of Kfar Chouba, before launching a shell at the same vicinity — further heightening tensions along the border.
Washington’s Mediation Efforts Collapse
Lebanese Deputy Prime Minister Tarek Mitri revealed that the United States failed to pressure the Israeli regime into upholding the ceasefire agreement signed last year.
Mitri disclosed that “Israel” had requested political negotiations through intermediaries in March, a request that Lebanon firmly rejected, insisting that any dialogue remain confined to military channels.
He explained that Washington presented what it termed a “mediation initiative”, which Beirut initially believed would compel “Israel” to honor its previous commitments — a promise that never materialized.
“The proposal submitted by the US envoy was accepted by Lebanon but ultimately rejected by ‘Israel’,”
Mitri said, noting that the occupation continues to violate the November 27, 2024 cessation of hostilities, ignoring all terms of the arrangement.
The Lebanese Deputy Prime Minister emphasized that the ongoing al-Naqoura negotiations have become “stuck in a loop,” as “Israel neither complies nor shows any genuine intent to comply” with its obligations under the ceasefire.
Continuous Violations Since November 2024
Despite the truce declared nearly a year ago, the Israeli occupation has maintained an aggressive posture against Lebanon — conducting near-daily attacks, reconnaissance flights, and artillery fire across the border regions.
On October 18, one Lebanese civilian was martyred in the southern town of Deir Kifa, after an Israeli drone fired three missiles at a bulldozer, according to Lebanon’s Ministry of Public Health’s Emergency Operations Center.
Earlier, on October 16, the Israeli occupation launched multiple airstrikes in what was described as one of the most intense bombardments since the ceasefire took effect.
In that operation, Israeli drones struck the al-Dabsheh hill on the outskirts of Kfar Tibnit, followed by another attack on the Kawthariya al-Siyyed–al-Sharqiya main road, marking a blatant violation of the truce and further endangering civilian lives.
Persistent Aggression and Impunity
Since November 2024, “Israel” has pursued a policy of continuous aggression and provocation along the Lebanese border, undermining all international mediation efforts.
Lebanese officials have repeatedly warned that Tel Aviv’s actions risk dragging the region into a wider conflict, while Washington’s inability — or unwillingness — to restrain its ally underscores the collapse of American credibility as a mediator.
The repeated Israeli strikes on southern Lebanon highlight the fragility of the ceasefire and the persistence of occupation hostility, as the Lebanese Resistance and population remain steadfast in defense of their sovereignty and land. (PW)
