Israeli General Rejects Military Optimism, Says Hamas Has Regained Pre-War Strength
Despite Israeli claims of progress, field reports and resistance operations point to a resurgent Hamas and escalating guerrilla warfare amid mounting civilian deaths.
Palestine, PUREWILAYAH.COM - Retired Israeli Reserve Major-General Yitzhak Brik has publicly challenged the Israeli military's narrative of success in Gaza, declaring in an article for Maariv that Hamas has effectively regained its pre-war strength.
Brik described the situation for Israeli troops as “grim” and noted that Hamas has returned to its original fighting capacity, with approximately 40,000 resistance fighters now active.
“They continue to fight as guerrillas as they have been fighting since the beginning of the war,” Brik wrote. “They were never an army, and therefore they have not lost their military capabilities as the Chief of Staff claims.”
This admission stands in stark contrast to public statements by Israeli military officials, who have repeatedly declared significant progress against the Palestinian resistance.
Guerrilla Warfare Surges: Resistance Shifts to Tactical Offensives
Recent reports from the battlefield indicate a shift in strategy by Palestinian resistance forces. Hamas, in coordination with Islamic Jihad’s armed wing, has launched a series of complex ambushes and tactical surprise attacks, particularly in northern Gaza.
On Saturday, the al-Quds Brigades announced that at least 40 Israeli soldiers were killed or wounded in a coordinated ambush.
Resistance fighters continue to operate in densely urbanized areas, exploiting their knowledge of the terrain and adapting with renewed guerrilla tactics.
Military analyst Rami Abu Zubaydah confirmed that Hamas has shifted “from a defensive phase to tactical attack mode,” inflicting substantial blows to Israeli forces amid their ongoing aggression.
Genocide Deepens: Gaza Civilians Bear the Brunt of Escalation
While resistance forces remain active, the US-Israeli military campaign has intensified its genocidal assault, particularly targeting Gaza City and its surroundings. Since the early hours of Sunday alone, over 60 Palestinian civilians have been killed in relentless aerial bombardments.
The Gaza Health Ministry has reported that the overall death toll has surpassed 57,400 since the start of the war in October 2023. Entire neighborhoods have been leveled, and key civilian infrastructure has been destroyed, amplifying the humanitarian catastrophe.
In response, Hamas has dismissed Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu’s rhetoric of “absolute victory” as a dangerous illusion, aimed at deceiving a frustrated Israeli public amid increasing battlefield losses and international condemnation. (PW)
