Israeli Embassy Staff Killed in Washington Shooting Near Jewish Museum
The suspect then approached a group of four individuals and opened fire, killing two people—a man and a woman who were reportedly a couple and staff members of the Israeli embassy
United States, PUREWILAYAH.COM - Two staff members of the Israeli embassy in Washington were shot and killed Wednesday evening near a Jewish museum, according to Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem. The incident occurred outside the Capital Jewish Museum, just steps from the FBI’s Washington field office.
Noem confirmed the deaths in a post on X (formerly Twitter), as the investigation into the attack remains underway.
Attorney General Pam Bondi stated that she was present at the scene of the shooting, alongside former judge Jeanine Pirro, who now serves as the U.S. Attorney for Washington, D.C. Authorities have not released specific information regarding a motive, but the incident has drawn swift international attention.
Later, the two dead Israeli staffers have been identified as Yaron Lischinsky and Sarah Milgram.
Allegations of Anti-Semitic Terrorism
Israeli Ambassador to the United Nations Danny Danon condemned the incident, calling it a "depraved act of anti-Semitic terrorism." The comment reflects rising tensions amid global reactions to events involving "Israel" and the Palestinian issue.
Details of the Attack
Metropolitan Police Chief Pamela Smith provided further details at a press conference. At around 9 p.m. Eastern Time on Wednesday, a man was reportedly seen "pacing back and forth" near the building shortly after a pro-"Israel" event hosted by the American Jewish Committee had concluded.
The suspect then approached a group of four individuals and opened fire, killing two people—a man and a woman who were reportedly a couple and staff members of the Israeli embassy.
Suspect Apprehended After Entering Museum
After the shooting, the suspect entered the museum, where he was quickly subdued by event security. While in custody, he was heard chanting “Free, Free Palestine,” according to Chief Smith.
Police have tentatively identified the suspect as Elias Rodriguez, a 30-year-old resident of Chicago, Illinois. Authorities noted that Rodriguez had no known prior interactions with law enforcement. As he was being arrested, he reportedly repeated the phrase, "Free Palestine."
Investigation Ongoing
Law enforcement agencies, including federal authorities, are actively investigating the attack. No charges have been formally filed as of yet, and officials have not confirmed whether the shooting is being classified as a hate crime or act of terrorism.
Further updates are expected as authorities continue their inquiry into the suspect’s background, motives, and any potential affiliations. (PW)
