Israeli Artillery Attacks Southern Lebanon in Ongoing Ceasefire Violations
Occupation forces shell southern areas, target Lebanese fishermen, as Tel Aviv continues to defy UN Resolution 1701 under US backing
Lebanon, PUREWILAYAH.COM — Israeli occupation forces launched new artillery attacks on southern Lebanon, marking yet another blatant violation of the ceasefire agreement and UN Security Council Resolution 1701, according to regional media reports.
Al Jazeera reported that Israeli artillery units shelled areas in southern Lebanon, continuing a pattern of repeated aggression despite the ceasefire formally agreed upon last year.
Israeli Naval and Air Attacks Target Lebanese Fishermen
In parallel with the artillery assault, Israeli warships opened fire on Lebanese fishing boats off the coast of Ras al-Naqoura in southern Lebanon.
Additionally, an Israeli aircraft violated the ceasefire by dropping a bomb near a Lebanese fishing boat, further escalating threats against civilians and livelihoods along Lebanon’s southern coast.
These attacks come amid sustained Israeli military pressure aimed at destabilizing southern Lebanon and intimidating its civilian population.
Paris Meeting Planned as Aggression Continues
Western media outlets reported that a meeting on Lebanon is scheduled to take place next week in Paris, hosted by France, to discuss the situation in the country.
The meeting is expected to include Lebanese Army Commander General Rodolphe Haykal, along with representatives from the United States and France—even as Israeli violations continue unabated on the ground.
UNIFIL Documents Thousands of Israeli Violations
The United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) previously stated in an official report that the Israeli regime has violated the ceasefire more than 10,000 times, both by land and air, since the agreement was signed.
These documented violations underscore Israel’s systematic disregard for international agreements and UN resolutions, despite repeated international warnings.
Israel launched its intensified military aggression against Lebanon on 1 October 2024, continuing for nearly two months before a ceasefire was signed on 27 November 2024, under US mediation.
Under the terms of the agreement, Israeli forces were required to fully withdraw from southern Lebanon within 60 days. However, relying on unconditional US political and military support and in direct violation of international law, Israel has refused full withdrawal and continues to occupy five strategic positions in the region.
Resistance Remains Central as Violations Escalate
Israel’s continued military actions demonstrate that the ceasefire has served as a political cover rather than a commitment to peace.
As aggression persists and civilian livelihoods are targeted, the logic of resistance remains central in confronting occupation, defending sovereignty, and exposing the hollow nature of US-backed ceasefire arrangements. (PW)
