Israeli Airstrikes Hit Homs Countryside Amid Reports of Syria–Israel Meeting
The timing of the Homs strike has fueled suspicions that Israel is using military pressure as leverage in the negotiations.
Syria, PUREWILAYAH.COM - Israeli fighter jets launched air raids late Monday on the countryside of Homs, Syria, using Lebanon’s northern airspace.
Syria’s official news agency, SANA, confirmed that the strikes also hit the vicinity of Homs city. No immediate details were released regarding the nature of the targets, material damage, or casualties.
The attack comes amid heightened regional tensions and repeated Israeli violations of Syrian sovereignty.
Damascus’ Condemnation
The Syrian Foreign Ministry denounced the raids, stating they targeted regions in both Homs and Latakia.
“The Israeli attacks represent a blatant violation of Syria's sovereignty and a direct threat to its regional security and stability,” the ministry said.
Damascus called on the international community to take a “clear and firm” stance to halt repeated Israeli aggressions.
Talks on the Horizon
The strikes coincided with reports from the Israeli Broadcasting Corporation (Kan) that Syrian Foreign Minister Asaad al-Shibani is expected to meet Israeli Strategic Affairs Minister Ron Dermer this week.
The US-mediated meeting reportedly aims to advance discussions on a possible security arrangement between the two governments.
Previous rounds, held in Paris under US envoy Tom Barrack’s facilitation, focused on stabilizing southern Syria, reactivating disengagement agreements, and preventing escalation along the occupied Golan Heights.
Concerns Over Negotiation Leverage
While Israeli and US officials promote the talks as a path toward regional stability, Syrian observers warn that such meetings could amount to concessions to the Israeli occupation.
The timing of the Homs strike has fueled suspicions that “Israel” is using military pressure as leverage in the negotiations.
Monday’s raids are part of an ongoing series of Israeli strikes across Syria in recent months.
As the anticipated al-Shibani–Dermer meeting approaches, the parallel escalation underscores the fragile and contentious nature of the proposed “security agreements.” (PW)
