Israel Strikes Southern Beirut on the Eve of Eid al-Adha
Tensions escalate in Lebanese capital as residential buildings targeted and residents flee under threat
Lebanon, PUREWILAYAH.COM - On Thursday evening, the Israeli occupation launched a series of aggressions targeting residential buildings in the southern suburb of Beirut, escalating already high tensions in the Lebanese capital.
According to Israeli media outlet Channel 14, the strikes were coordinated with the United States, a revelation that adds a new geopolitical dimension to the ongoing conflict.
So far, eight airstrikes have been carried out by Israeli forces on civilian infrastructure in the area, with multiple neighborhoods hit, including Haret Hreik and Burj al-Barajneh.
Lebanese Army Ignored Despite Ceasefire Oversight
A security source told Al Mayadeen that the Lebanese Army, working alongside the committee overseeing the implementation of the ceasefire agreement, had entered the threatened buildings to monitor the situation and prevent escalation.
However, Israeli forces reportedly disregarded the coordination efforts and proceeded with the assault regardless.
The Israeli occupation had issued direct threats earlier that night, warning of imminent strikes on five residential buildings in Hadath, Haret Hreik, and Burj al-Barajneh, all of which are densely populated civilian areas.
Strikes Extend to Southern Lebanon
In a related escalation, Israeli occupation also conducted four airstrikes on Ain Qana, a town in southern Lebanon. These strikes targeted additional residential zones, suggesting a broader pattern of aggression beyond Beirut.
Panic and Evacuation in Targeted Neighborhoods
Following the Israeli threats, severe traffic congestion was reported throughout the southern suburb of Beirut as residents attempted to evacuate from the targeted zones. Eyewitnesses described scenes of panic as families fled their homes ahead of the expected strikes.
Moments after the warnings, two initial airstrikes were launched on the Al-Qaim area, affecting buildings in both Haret Hreik and Burj al-Barajneh.
According to Israeli Channel 14, these attacks on the Lebanese capital are being carried out in active coordination with the United States, further intensifying regional concerns over U.S. complicity in Israeli military operations on Lebanese soil.(PW)
