Israel Sent Intelligence-Military System to Somalia Under UN Office Label: Report
A one-ton shipment carrying an advanced intelligence-military communications system was reportedly sent from Tel Aviv to Somalia under the name of a UN office via Nairobi.
Somalia, PUREWILAYAH.COM – An advanced intelligence-military communications system was shipped from Tel Aviv to Somalia under the name of a United Nations office, according to a report by Al Mayadeen citing informed sources.
The report said the one-ton shipment arrived in Somalia on June 21 after being transported from Tel Aviv through Nairobi.
Available information identified the cargo as a modern communications system designed for intelligence and military purposes.
According to the report, the shipment was sent by Mer Security and Communications, an Israeli company headquartered in Or Yehuda.
The cargo was reportedly registered as a shipment destined for a United Nations office despite containing equipment intended for intelligence and military use.
Move Follows Growing Israeli Presence in Somaliland
The reported shipment coincides with expanding Israeli engagement in Somaliland, the self-declared region in northern Somalia.
On June 15, Somaliland President Abdirahman Mohamed Abdullahi and his wife, Fardowsa Mohamed Roble, arrived in the occupied Palestinian territories on an official visit. They were received by Israeli President Isaac Herzog and inaugurated Somaliland’s representative office in occupied al-Quds.
Israel had previously recognized Somaliland’s independence in September 2025 under Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, a move that was widely condemned by Arab and Muslim countries, which reaffirmed their support for Somalia’s unity, sovereignty, and territorial integrity.
Strategic Location
Somaliland occupies a strategic position overlooking the Bab al-Mandab Strait and the Gulf of Aden, making it one of the most significant locations in the Horn of Africa.
The report noted that the Israeli regime has long sought to establish a foothold in the region because of its strategic importance. (PW)
