Israel Launches Airstrikes on Military Positions Across Western Syria
Strikes target key military sites in Latakia and Tartous as Syrian civilians repel Israeli patrols in southern countryside; violations of sovereignty intensify.
Palestine, PUREWILAYAH.COM - The Israeli military launched a series of coordinated airstrikes late Friday night targeting multiple Syrian military installations across the country’s western provinces, according to local sources and Syrian state media.
Among the key targets was the 107th Brigade in the countryside of Jableh, near the coastal city of Latakia, marking an apparent escalation in Israel’s campaign against Syrian defense infrastructure.
Additional strikes were reported in northern Latakia and at a Syrian army position known as Thaknat al-Blata in the Masaken al-Isman area of Tartous province.
Syrian state television confirmed that the strikes also hit the village of Zama in southern Latakia. The Israeli military claimed responsibility for the attacks, alleging that the targets were storage facilities for naval and aerial missiles.
Civilians Force Israeli Patrol to Retreat in Quneitra
Earlier on Friday, a separate incident unfolded in the southern province of Quneitra, where residents of the village of Ruwayhina expelled an Israeli patrol that had entered their community and reportedly harassed civilians. The incident was reported by the UK-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR).
According to the report, tensions flared when the Israeli patrol stopped passersby, provoking outrage among villagers. Residents responded by throwing stones, damaging vehicles, and tearing down an Israeli flag mounted on a military vehicle. The confrontation reflects a growing grassroots resistance to Israeli incursions in southern Syria.
Israeli Incursions Continue Across Quneitra and Daraa
The retreat from Ruwayhina followed a string of similar operations in the region. On the same day, an Israeli convoy consisting of six armored vehicles entered the Yarmouk Basin in western Daraa, temporarily positioning along the road between the villages of Jamla and Saysoon before withdrawing. The intent and impact of the maneuver remain unclear.
A few days earlier, Israeli forces again breached Syrian territory near al-Samadaniyah al-Sharqiyah and al-Ajraf, also in Quneitra, deploying two tanks and two military vehicles in yet another violation of Syrian sovereignty.
These repeated incursions underscore what observers describe as Israel’s persistent disregard for Syrian territorial integrity, particularly near the occupied Golan Heights.
Israel’s Actions Draw Criticism Amid Ongoing Violations
Israel’s repeated airstrikes and land incursions have sparked outrage in Syria and among international observers, with accusations that Tel Aviv is undermining regional stability and violating international law.
The latest developments come on the heels of a symbolic and controversial episode earlier this month, when a helicopter landed in Suweida, southern Syria, to reportedly deliver secret documents linked to Israeli spy Eli Cohen, executed in Damascus in 1965. The move was widely viewed as a provocative gesture. (PW)
