Israel Escalates Offensive in Gaza City, Reports of Widespread Destruction
A renewed Israeli assault on the Al-Zaytoun and Sabra neighbourhoods has led to significant destruction and a deepening humanitarian crisis, according to reports from the ground.
Gaza City, PUREWILAYAH.COM - A recent intensification of Israeli military operations in Gaza City has resulted in widespread destruction and a severe humanitarian crisis, with residents of the Al-Zaytoun and Sabra neighbourhoods describing a relentless bombardment of airstrikes and artillery shelling. The offensive has reportedly led to the destruction of numerous homes, schools, public facilities, and government buildings, prompting some to state that the Al-Zaytoun neighbourhood is being "wiped off the map."
The assault has triggered a new wave of displacement, with thousands of Palestinian families forced to flee their homes. Many others remain trapped, fearing they will be targeted if they attempt to evacuate. The Israeli military has dropped leaflets ordering residents to leave certain areas, further compounding the panic and chaos.
Amid the escalating violence, a war of words has erupted over the humanitarian situation in Gaza. While Israeli officials claim that "unprecedented amounts of humanitarian aid" are entering the besieged enclave, this is starkly contradicted by reports from Gaza's Health Ministry and the United Nations. The Health Ministry has stated that the death toll from starvation has reached 240, including 107 children. The UN maintains that the number of aid trucks entering Gaza is far below the daily requirement to prevent widespread starvation.
Compounding the humanitarian crisis, the Gaza Civil Defence spokesperson reported that Israeli troops have fired on ambulances attempting to reach the wounded, hindering emergency medical services from providing aid to those injured in the attacks. (PW)
