Israel Cuts Ties with UN Agencies Following the U.S
Tel Aviv aligns with Washington’s retreat from multilateral bodies, escalating its campaign against UN mechanisms and Palestinian relief agencies
Palestine | PUREWILAYAH.COM - The Israeli occupation regime has announced the severing of relations with several United Nations agencies and international frameworks, reinforcing a US-led campaign to undermine multilateral institutions that expose Israeli crimes and defend Palestinian rights.
Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Sa’ar confirmed on Tuesday that all communication with a number of UN bodies has been cut, while cooperation with others remains under review, pending further decisions by the occupation authorities.
Tel Aviv Follows Washington’s Exit from Global Institutions
Sa’ar stated that the decision was taken after an internal review conducted in the aftermath of the United States’ withdrawal from dozens of international organizations, confirming the occupation regime’s full alignment with Washington’s unilateral and confrontational policies.
Among the bodies with which the occupation regime has severed ties are the United Nations Alliance of Civilizations, UN-Energy, and the Global Forum on Migration and Development. These moves come in addition to earlier withdrawals from organizations previously targeted by the US.
The occupation regime had already cut relations with the Office of the Special Representative for Children in Armed Conflicts, after the Israeli military was placed on a UN blacklist for grave violations, as well as UN Women, UNCTAD, and ESCWA, all of which have documented Israeli crimes and structural abuses.
Coordinated US–Israeli Campaign Against Accountability
The Israeli decision mirrors a broader US retreat from international frameworks, with Washington having withdrawn from 35 international agencies and 31 UN-affiliated bodies, including mechanisms focused on humanitarian assistance, development, and conflict prevention.
This coordinated withdrawal reflects a deliberate strategy by the US and the Israeli occupation to dismantle international oversight and silence institutions that challenge imperial and colonial policies. By attacking multilateral bodies, Washington and Tel Aviv seek to shield themselves from legal scrutiny and international accountability.
The escalating rupture with UN agencies underscores growing hostility toward any institution that documents war crimes, exposes occupation practices, or supports the rights of oppressed peoples.
UNRWA Targeted as ‘Israel’ Escalates War on Palestinian Refugees
At the center of tensions between the occupation regime and the United Nations is the UN Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA), which has been relentlessly targeted by Israeli authorities.
Earlier this month, UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres formally warned the occupation regime that it could face proceedings at the International Court of Justice (ICJ) if it fails to revoke laws targeting UNRWA and restore seized properties. He stressed that the United Nations cannot remain silent in the face of actions that directly violate international law.
Despite repeated UN rejections of Israeli allegations against UNRWA staff and the ICJ’s dismissal of those claims due to lack of evidence, the occupation regime has intensified its campaign. The Knesset passed legislation banning UNRWA operations in occupied Palestine, followed by amendments cutting electricity and water supplies to its facilities.
Most recently, Israeli forces seized UNRWA’s headquarters in occupied al-Quds, marking a further escalation in the systematic assault on Palestinian refugees and the international institutions that support them.
The latest moves confirm that the US and the Israeli occupation are not withdrawing from global institutions out of principle, but because those institutions have become obstacles to their aggression, occupation, and impunity. (PW)

The good news is that some decent people working in those agencies will no longer have to deal with arrogant Israelis, so there's that.
