Israel Bombs Beirut’s Southern Suburb, Killing and Injuring Civilians
Israeli warplanes targeted a residential building in Beirut’s Southern Suburb, killing two civilians and injuring at least 11 others in a preliminary toll.
Lebanon, PUREWILAYAH.COM — Israeli warplanes carried out an airstrike on Beirut’s Southern Suburb on Sunday, targeting a residential building in the Tahwitat al-Ghadir area and killing two civilians.
According to Lebanon’s National News Agency (NNA), the strike targeted two apartments in the Marjayeh–Tahwitat al-Ghadir area, leaving two people dead and at least 11 others injured in a preliminary toll.
Al Mayadeen’s correspondent reported that several missiles struck the building in the densely populated neighborhood, causing casualties and damage to surrounding residential areas.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Security Minister Israel Katz later confirmed that Israeli forces were carrying out strikes in Beirut’s Southern Suburb.
Meanwhile, Israeli media reported that the Trump administration had been informed prior to the attack.
An IRIB News Agency correspondent reported that residential buildings were among the targets hit in the Israeli strike. The correspondent also reported missile launches toward the northern occupied territories following the attack.
Strike Comes Despite Ceasefire Arrangement
The attack comes despite a ceasefire arrangement announced earlier between the Lebanese government and Israel through US mediation.
Earlier this month, the US State Department announced the outcome of trilateral discussions involving American, Lebanese, and Israeli representatives aimed at advancing ceasefire understandings and security arrangements along the Lebanese border.
Sunday’s attack also follows a series of Israeli threats directed at Beirut’s Southern Suburb in recent days, raising concerns over renewed escalation on the Lebanese front.
Israeli attacks on Lebanese territory have continued despite ceasefire understandings, while the Islamic Resistance in Lebanon has maintained its position that aggression against Lebanon must be confronted and deterred.
Iran Had Previously Warned Against Any Attack on Dahiyeh
The attack came days after senior Iranian officials warned against any Israeli aggression targeting Beirut’s Southern Suburb.
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi had previously condemned threats against the area and stated that Tehran had informed all parties that it would not tolerate an attack on Beirut.
“We have told all parties that if they attack Beirut, we will not tolerate it,” Araghchi said, adding that developments on the ground would ultimately depend on the Resistance’s response.
Araghchi also stated that Iran had been fully prepared to strike Israel if Beirut and its Southern Suburb came under attack, referring to Israeli threats issued against the area on June 1.
Mohsen Rezaei, military adviser to the Leader of the Islamic Revolution, likewise warned Israel against targeting Dahiyeh, saying missile forces were prepared to carry out a broader deterrent response if necessary.
Meanwhile, Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Kazem Gharibabadi said remarks by US President Donald Trump claiming he had prevented an Israeli attack on Beirut amounted to an acknowledgment of Washington’s direct role in the ongoing aggression. (PW)
