Islamic Jihad and Popular Front Delegations Join Sharm el-Sheikh Negotiations
Palestinian factions unite with Hamas delegation in efforts to establish mechanisms for a Gaza ceasefire
Palestine, PUREWILAYAH.COM — Delegations from the Islamic Jihad Movement in Palestine and the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP) joined the Hamas delegation participating in the ongoing Sharm el-Sheikh negotiations on Wednesday, in an effort to formulate mechanisms for implementing a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip.
According to the SAFA News Agency, a well-informed source confirmed that delegations from Islamic Jihad and the PFLP were scheduled to join the Hamas delegation later in the evening as part of the talks currently taking place in the Egyptian city of Sharm el-Sheikh.
Goal: Ending Genocide and Supporting a Unified Palestinian Position
A leading source within the Islamic Jihad Movement stated that the participation of the factions aims to “support the unified national Palestinian position and seek an agreement that halts the genocide against our people and ends their ongoing suffering.”
He stressed that the participation of the factions in this round “reflects a broad national demand,” noting that the mediators welcomed the joining of the Palestinian delegations, viewing it as a step that “strengthens the unity of the Palestinian stance in facing Israeli and international political pressures.”
Priorities: Ending the War, Full Withdrawal, and Reconstruction
The source further clarified that the Palestinian factions taking part “will remain faithful to the priorities of our people — ending the war, ensuring the complete withdrawal of occupation forces from the Gaza Strip, and launching a new phase of reconstruction and the lifting of the blockade.”
The indirect negotiations between Hamas and Israel began last Sunday in Sharm el-Sheikh, Egypt, with the participation of officials from Egypt, Qatar, and the United States.
The talks come amid intensive efforts to reach a ceasefire and a prisoner exchange agreement that includes the release of detainees and captives, while Israeli military aggression continues across various parts of the Gaza Strip for the third consecutive year. (PW)
