IRGC Strikes US Base in Kuwait in Retaliation for Bandar Abbas Aggression
Iran warns of harsher retaliation as American forces launch new strikes near the Strait of Hormuz amid ongoing ceasefire violations.
Iran, PUREWILAYAH.COM — Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) launched retaliatory strikes against a US military base in Kuwait early Thursday after Washington carried out new attacks against Bandar Abbas and areas surrounding the Strait of Hormuz.
In an official statement, the IRGC announced that US forces launched aerial projectiles at a location on the outskirts of Bandar Abbas Airport before dawn. Iran responded by targeting the American air base identified as the source of the aggression at approximately 4:50 a.m. local time.
“This response is a serious warning to the enemy that aggression will not go unanswered,” the IRGC stated.
The statement further warned that if the attacks are repeated, Iran’s response would become “more decisive and harsher,” stressing that responsibility for all consequences lies entirely with the aggressor.
Kuwaiti Air Defenses Activated
Shortly after Iran’s retaliatory operation, the Kuwaiti military confirmed that its air defense systems were activated to confront incoming missile and drone attacks crossing the country’s airspace.
Iranian media reported explosions in eastern Hormozgan province and near the Strait of Hormuz as Iranian air defense systems were activated during clashes between Iranian and American forces in the strategic waterway.
According to Iranian military sources, several US-linked vessels and tankers attempted to pass through the Strait of Hormuz without coordination with Iranian security forces. Iranian naval units reportedly intervened and opened warning fire, forcing the vessels to retreat.
Washington Claims ‘Self-Defense’
US Central Command (CENTCOM) admitted carrying out strikes against Iranian military positions near Bandar Abbas and the Strait of Hormuz, claiming the attacks were conducted in “self-defense” to protect American troops.
A US official quoted by Western media further claimed the military operations were intended to “maintain” the ceasefire, despite repeated American violations of the truce in recent weeks.
The latest escalation comes only days after US forces attacked Iran’s coastal regions and targeted air defense positions near Bandar Abbas. In response, the IRGC previously announced the downing of a US MQ-9 drone over the Persian Gulf following a violation of Iranian airspace.
Iran: US Bases Used for Aggression Are Legitimate Targets
Throughout the recent war and escalation, Iran repeatedly warned that any American military base in the region used to launch attacks against the Islamic Republic would be considered a legitimate target.
Tehran stressed that while Iran maintains friendly relations with neighboring Gulf countries, it will not hesitate to strike the source of any aggression against its territory.
The latest developments have once again turned the Strait of Hormuz into one of the most dangerous flashpoints in West Asia amid stalled negotiations between Tehran and Washington over ending aggression, lifting maritime restrictions, and releasing Iran’s frozen assets.
Iranian sources stated that one of the preliminary frameworks currently under discussion includes ending military aggression on all fronts, lifting the maritime blockade, and reopening navigation through the Strait of Hormuz. (PW)
