IRGC Strikes Source of Attack on Sirik Island
Iran warns of a stronger response after targeting the source of an attack on a communications facility in Hormozgan Province.
Iran, PUREWILAYAH.COM — Iran’s Islamic Revolution Guard Corps (IRGC) announced Monday that it carried out a retaliatory strike against the airbase from which an attack on a communications tower on Sirik Island in Hormozgan Province was launched.
The IRGC said the operation was conducted in direct response to the attack and warned that any repetition of such actions would be met with a significantly stronger response.
“The response of the IRGC Aerospace Force will be completely different if such aggression is repeated,” the statement said.
The IRGC held the United States responsible for the latest escalation, accusing Washington of continuing hostile actions against Iran despite the ceasefire.
Iran Down US MQ-1 Drone
The latest exchange followed the downing of a US MQ-1 drone by Iranian air defense units over Iranian territorial waters.
According to the IRGC, the aircraft entered Iranian airspace while conducting a hostile operation before being intercepted and destroyed.
“The airspace over Iran’s territorial waters is under full control,” the IRGC stated, warning that any act of aggression would be met with a firm response.
Iran later released footage showing the wreckage of the drone recovered near Qeshm Island.
The United States subsequently announced strikes on targets inside Iran, claiming the operation was carried out in self-defense following the drone incident.
Iran rejected the US justification and described the strikes as a continuation of hostile actions that violate the ceasefire framework.
Warning of Further Retaliation
The latest operation follows earlier warnings issued by the IRGC regarding US military activity near Bandar Abbas and other strategic locations along Iran’s southern coast.
Iranian military officials stressed that any attack on Iranian territory, infrastructure, or military assets would be answered by strikes against the source of the aggression.
“The responsibility for the consequences lies with the aggressor,” the IRGC said.
The exchange comes amid ongoing efforts to preserve the ceasefire between Tehran and Washington, which Iranian officials have repeatedly stated applies to all fronts, including Lebanon. (PW)
