IRGC Navy Commander: Strait of Hormuz Under 24/7 Intelligence Surveillance
IRGC Navy commander says Iran maintains full, round-the-clock intelligence dominance over the Strait of Hormuz, covering surface, aerial, and subsurface domains.
Iran, PUREWILAYAH.COM — The commander of the Navy of Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) has stressed that the IRGC Navy maintains complete, 24-hour intelligence dominance over the Strait of Hormuz, encompassing surface, aerial, and subsurface domains.
Rear Admiral Alireza Tangsiri stated that this comprehensive surveillance ensures uninterrupted awareness of all movements through the strategic waterway.
Iranian Islands Described as “Invincible Fortresses”
In remarks reported by Iran’s state media on Monday, Tangsiri said the ongoing military exercise titled “Defensive Strength and Offensive Operations from the Persian Gulf Islands” is being conducted across the Persian Gulf and the Strait of Hormuz.
He described Iran’s islands in the Persian Gulf and the Strait of Hormuz as “invincible fortresses” and “a matter of national honor for the Iranian people,” emphasizing that the responsibility for defending these islands, as well as securing the entire Persian Gulf and the Strait of Hormuz, rests with the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps Navy.
According to Tangsiri, these drills are part of routine annual programs aimed at maintaining readiness and ensuring security in this strategic region.
New Tactics and Capabilities under Annual Exercises
Tangsiri explained that while the exercise follows the IRGC Navy’s annual schedule, its distinction lies in the tactics and equipment being employed. Some aspects are being showcased publicly, while others remain undisclosed and will be revealed at an appropriate time.
He noted that rapid and decisive responses by IRGC operational units to maritime security threats are at the core of the drills.
Ensuring Security for Non-Hostile Maritime Traffic
Referring to Iran’s record since the 1979 Islamic Revolution, Tangsiri said the Islamic Republic has successfully ensured security in the Strait of Hormuz for 47 years, preventing instability and safeguarding navigation.
He stressed that it is a fundamental principle for Iran to guarantee the interests of all non-hostile countries transiting the strait. The IRGC Navy, he said, fulfills this mission through equipment, systems, and routine patrols.
Rapid Reaction Units on Constant Readiness
Tangsiri added that IRGC Navy rapid-reaction units are continuously training to intervene when necessary, including inspecting or seizing violator vessels if ordered. He described this as part of a coordinated and well-defined security framework covering the Persian Gulf, the Strait of Hormuz, and international waterways.
Reiterating Iran’s full 24-hour intelligence dominance, Tangsiri said that the Strait of Hormuz is under constant monitoring above and below the surface to ensure secure passage.
He noted that more than 80 oil tankers and commercial container ships pass through the strait daily, accounting for a significant share of global maritime trade. As such, he emphasized, the IRGC Navy remains committed day and night to ensuring the security of this strategic waterway for all non-hostile nations whose economic interests are tied to it. (PW)
