Iran’s Parliament Speaker Visits Latin America, Joins BRICS Forum in Brazil
Delegation to engage with leaders in Venezuela, Cuba, and Brazil ahead of key multilateral summit in Brasília
Iran, PUREWILAYAH.COM - Speaker of the Iranian Parliament, Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf, will embark on an official tour of Latin America starting Sunday, according to a statement by his special assistant for international affairs.
The Iranian delegation, led by Qalibaf, is scheduled to visit Venezuela, Cuba, and Brazil, in a diplomatic outreach that underscores Iran’s expanding engagement with Latin American countries.
Iran to Participate in BRICS Parliamentary Forum in Brazil
As part of the trip, Qalibaf will participate in the 11th BRICS Parliamentary Forum. In which will take place from June 3–5 at the National Congress Palace in Brasília, the capital of Brazil.
The event is set to convene the presidents of parliament and congressional representatives from all eleven BRICS member states, including the bloc’s newest members—Egypt, Ethiopia, Iran, Saudi Arabia, and the UAE—alongside Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa.
Strategic Engagement Among Emerging Economies
The BRICS Parliamentary Forum serves as a key platform for legislative dialogue and policy coordination among emerging economies.
Discussions will focus on enhancing multilateral cooperation in areas such as development financing, trade integration, sovereignty, and global governance reform.
Notably, the presidents of the New Development Bank (NDB) and the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) are also expected to attend, signaling the growing institutional role of the BRICS alliance on the global stage.
Iran’s Push for Global South Solidarity
Iran’s participation in the forum and broader Latin America tour highlights its strategic pivot toward the Global South, fostering deeper alliances amid shifting international dynamics.
The visits to Venezuela and Cuba—longstanding partners of Tehran—are expected to include high-level meetings focused on economic cooperation, energy, parliamentary diplomacy, and anti-sanctions strategies. (PW)
