Iranian and Iraqi National Security Officials Meet in Moscow Amid Regional Security Talks
Ali Bagheri and Qasim al-Araji discussed regional stability, security threats against Iran, and cooperation between Tehran and Baghdad on the sidelines of the Moscow International Security Conference
Russia, PUREWILAYAH.COM — Ali Bagheri Kani, Deputy Secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council, held talks with Iraqi National Security Adviser Qasim al-Araji in Moscow during the 14th International Meeting of High Representatives for Security Issues.
According to Tasnim News Agency, the meeting focused on regional security developments and coordination between Tehran and Baghdad amid rising tensions across West Asia.
During the talks, Bagheri stressed the important role of the Resistance in establishing stability in the region and called on the Iraqi government to take decisive measures to prevent Iraqi territory and airspace from being used as a source of threats against Iran.
He emphasized that the roots of such threats “must be eradicated,” adding that the Islamic Republic is fully prepared for active cooperation with Iraq in confronting security challenges.
Bagheri arrived in Moscow on Tuesday to participate in the annual international security conference hosted by Russia. He was welcomed by Iran’s ambassador to Moscow Kazem Jalali and representatives from the Russian Foreign Ministry.
The Iranian official is expected to deliver a speech at the conference and hold additional meetings with Russian political and security officials on the sidelines of the event.
The Moscow International Security Conference is regarded as Russia’s most important annual gathering on regional and global security issues, attended by senior officials and representatives from numerous countries and international organizations.
Iran’s Enriched Uranium Stockpiles Not on Negotiation Agenda
Speaking separately on the sidelines of the conference, Bagheri also commented on ongoing indirect contacts between Iran and the United States, stating that Iran’s enriched uranium stockpiles are not part of the negotiations.
According to RIA Novosti, he further revealed that Iran and Oman are discussing a new mechanism for ship passage through the Strait of Hormuz, while noting that no agreement has yet been reached with Washington regarding the reopening of the strategic waterway.
