TEHRAN — The highest levels of the Iranian leadership have issued fierce condemnations and vowed swift retribution following the cowardly terrorist assassination of a senior female police commander in southeastern Iran, declaring that such acts of violence will only strengthen the nation’s resolve against terror.
Nosrat Eftekhari, the deputy for cultural and social affairs at the Sistan-Baluchestan provincial police command, was assassinated on Friday when an explosive device struck her vehicle on the road to Cheshmeh Ziarat village near the provincial capital of Zahedan. Several other dedicated security personnel sustained injuries in the treacherous attack.
In a strongly worded message of condolence on Saturday, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian denounced the “blind terrorist acts” aimed at sowing insecurity, spreading violence, and disrupting public peace in the Islamic Republic. He emphasised that the targeted killing of innocent public servants only exposes the desperate and criminal nature of the perpetrators.
President Pezeshkian assured the nation that these terrorist manoeuvres will never shake the steadfast determination of Iran’s security forces. He has ordered the relevant authorities to conduct an urgent, comprehensive investigation into all aspects of the bombing, demanding the swift identification and prosecution of those responsible. He reaffirmed the government’s unwavering commitment to confronting terrorism and neutralising any elements seeking to destabilise the country.
Echoing the President’s sentiments, Parliament Speaker Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf vowed that the masterminds and foot soldiers behind the attack would face uncompromising justice. Speaker Qalibaf praised Eftekhari as a deeply dedicated public servant who tirelessly worked to address the grievances of local communities, particularly in remote and underserved areas of Sistan-Baluchestan.
Highlighting her vital role in strengthening trust and solidarity among Iran’s diverse ethnic groups, Qalibaf noted that targeting an official engaged in social cohesion underscores the enemy’s fear of a united populace. He urged authorities to relentlessly pursue the case until full accountability is achieved. Furthermore, he emphasised the necessity of tackling regional deprivation and reinforcing unity among ethnic and religious communities as the ultimate response to terrorist plots and the most fitting tribute to Eftekhari’s legacy.
Alongside the President and Parliament Speaker, Police Chief Brigadier General Ahmadreza Radan also condemned the heinous bombing, reiterating that the sacrifice of Iran’s security personnel will never be in vain and that public order will be fiercely safeguarded against all external and internal threats.
