Iran Strongly Protests IAEA Chief’s Report, Slams Political Bias and Zionist Influence
Tehran accuses IAEA Director General of exceeding mandate under political pressure, calls report biased, imbalanced, and based on forged Israeli documents
Iran, PUREWILAYAH.COM - The Foreign Ministry of Iran and the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI) issued a joint statement on Saturday, firmly rejecting the recent report issued by IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi, accusing him of acting beyond his authority and under political pressure from Western states.
The report, contained in document GOV/2025/25 dated 31 May 2025, was presented to the IAEA Board of Governors and, according to Tehran, reflects a politically motivated and unbalanced evaluation of Iran’s peaceful nuclear program.
Western Violations of JCPOA is The Root Cause
Iran pointed to repeated violations by the United States, United Kingdom, France, and Germany of their obligations under the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) and UN Security Council Resolution 2231, noting that these countries have imposed illegal unilateral sanctions in clear contradiction to international law.
Tehran highlighted the political maneuvering of these countries in the IAEA, specifically referencing a politically charged resolution passed in November 2024 against Iran—despite Iran's cooperation with the Agency and the IAEA chief’s own visits to Tehran.
Iran’s Extensive Cooperation Ignored
The statement emphasized that Iran has cooperated extensively with the IAEA under the Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) and the Comprehensive Safeguards Agreement (CSA), including:
Hosting two visits by the IAEA Director General
Hosting two visits by the Deputy Director General for Safeguards
Providing access to alleged sites
Delivering explanations, samples, and historical context
Yet, despite this openness, the report fails to reflect the true scale and sincerity of Iran’s cooperation.
Report Relies on False Israeli Claims
Iran slammed the IAEA report for recycling baseless accusations, stating it relies heavily on fabricated intelligence provided by the Zionist regime, a state which:
Is not a signatory to the NPT
Possesses a nuclear arsenal
Has made open threats against Iran’s peaceful nuclear sites
Tehran warned that referencing such sources violates the professional verification principles of the IAEA and undermines the agency’s credibility.
Sovereign Rights of Iran Misrepresented
The report’s criticism of Iran’s inspector appointment decisions, enrichment activities, and implementation of Modified Code 3.1, is dismissed by Tehran as a mischaracterization of sovereign and legal rights.
Iran underscored that:
The IAEA has 125 approved inspectors in Iran
Revoking a few of them is a right under Article 9 of the CSA
Iran’s enrichment is fully declared, peaceful, and under IAEA monitoring
Some voluntary JCPOA measures are wrongly framed in the report as mandatory, despite lacking legal basis
Distinction Between JCPOA and NPT Obligations Must Be Respected
The statement criticized the report’s failure to distinguish between Iran’s voluntary JCPOA commitments and legally binding NPT obligations. It described this conflation as a fundamental flaw that undermines the report’s legitimacy.
Iran reminded the IAEA and the international community that voluntary confidence-building steps must not be interpreted or enforced as binding safeguards.
Grossi’s Silence on Israeli Threats Deplored
Iran expressed deep regret over the IAEA chief’s continued silence on Israeli threats against Iran’s peaceful nuclear sites and his failure to uphold the impartiality expected of his position.
Tehran warned that politicizing the IAEA and exploiting its reports would backfire, harming the institution’s global standing and undermining diplomacy in the field of nuclear non-proliferation.
Iran Reaffirms Peaceful Nature of Its Program
Tehran reaffirmed that:
Iran’s nuclear program remains peaceful and under full IAEA supervision
There is no place for nuclear weapons in Iran’s defense doctrine, as confirmed by a religious fatwa from the Leader of the Islamic Revolution
Iran has repeatedly acted with transparency and restraint in the face of pressure and hostility
Warning Against Political Abuse of the Report
The joint statement concluded with a clear warning: If certain countries exploit Iran’s cooperation and misuse the IAEA report during the Board of Governors meeting, Iran will take reciprocal measures to defend its legitimate rights.
“The responsibility for the consequences of such misuse will lie with those countries,” the statement declared. (PW)
