Iran, Russia Presidents Push Strategic Partnership at SCO Summit
Pezeshkian and Putin meet at SCO summit, send greetings to Ayatollah Sayyed Ali Khamenei, and stress expanding trade, cultural, and strategic ties
China, PUREWILAYAH.COM - On the sidelines of the 25th Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) summit in Tianjin, China, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian and Russian President Vladimir Putin reaffirmed their commitment to deepening Iran-Russia relations.
Both leaders underscored the pivotal role of the Iran-Russia Comprehensive Strategic Partnership Treaty as a catalyst for expanding cooperation across multiple sectors.
Pezeshkian: Accelerating Treaty Implementation
Pezeshkian highlighted the high value Iran places on its ongoing interactions with Russia, stressing that the implementation of the long-term treaty would pave the way for greater collaboration.
He noted that cooperation under the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) framework would further facilitate robust bilateral engagements.
The Iranian president pledged his personal commitment to removing obstacles, accelerating agreements, and enhancing collaboration in science, academia, and knowledge-sharing to build a strong foundation for long-term cooperation.
Addressing the broader geopolitical environment, Pezeshkian criticized the United States and its allies for promoting unilateralism. He emphasized that platforms like the SCO are vital for advancing multilateralism and counterbalancing such tendencies.
Putin: Trade, Cultural Exchange, and Strategic Ties
Putin conveyed greetings to Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei and praised the increasingly friendly nature of Iran-Russia ties. He noted the recent surge in bilateral trade volumes and pointed to the free trade agreement between Iran and the EAEU as a significant driver of future cooperation.
