Iran, Russia, and China to Officially Announce End of UNSC Resolution 2231
Tehran affirms that U.S.-EU “snapback” sanctions have no legal basis as over 121 nations back the formal termination of anti-Iran restrictions.
Iran, PUREWILAYAH.COM – Iran’s Deputy Foreign Minister Kazem Gharibabadi announced that Iran, Russia, and China will jointly submit a formal letter to the UN Secretary-General and the President of the Security Council, marking the official end of UN Security Council Resolution 2231.
Gharibabadi stressed that the coordinated step aims to highlight the legal and political closure of the resolution, which has been used by Western powers to justify pressure on Iran’s nuclear program.
He stated that during the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) Ministerial Summit, more than 121 countries confirmed that the resolution must be formally declared concluded, reflecting overwhelming international support for Iran’s position.
Tehran Rejects Western ‘Snapback’ Sanctions and Signals Shift at the IAEA
Gharibabadi firmly rejected the so-called “snapback” mechanism activated by the United States and Europe, declaring it legally null and non-binding.
“These sanctions have no legitimacy. UN member states are under no obligation to enforce them,” he affirmed.
He further noted that with the expiration of Resolution 2231, Iran’s status at the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) will fundamentally change.
“The IAEA Director-General will no longer be required to report on the JCPOA,” he said, signaling Iran’s intent to operate strictly within its national framework and NPT obligations—free from Western political manipulation.
As Iran, alongside major powers such as Russia and China, moves to close the chapter on UNSC oversight, the geopolitical message is clear:
The era of Western coercion is ending, and the global majority stands with sovereign nations exercising their rights—without submission to American or Israeli pressure.
