Iran Rejects Reports of Direct US Talks in Doha
Gharibabadi said the Iranian delegation’s meetings in the Qatari capital were limited to joint sessions with Qatari and Pakistani counterparts to follow up on the implementation of MoU
Iran, PUREWILAYAH.COM – Iran has rejected reports that its delegation held direct or indirect meetings with US officials in Doha, with Deputy Foreign Minister Kazem Gharibabadi stating that no such contacts took place during the visit.
Gharibabadi said the Iranian delegation’s meetings in the Qatari capital were limited to joint sessions with Qatari and Pakistani counterparts to follow up on the implementation of the Memorandum of Understanding signed between Tehran and Washington.
No Talks Held With US Delegation
Responding to reports alleging contacts between Iranian and US officials in Doha, Gharibabadi said no meeting had taken place between the two sides.
He explained that discussions in Doha focused solely on implementing the memorandum, while consultations on future negotiations continue through Qatari and Pakistani mediators.
According to Gharibabadi, working groups responsible for supervising implementation of the memorandum and preparing negotiations toward a final agreement have already been established. However, negotiations within those frameworks have not yet started, and the mediators are continuing consultations to determine the time and venue for the talks.
Iran Raises US Violations of the Memorandum
During the meetings, the Iranian delegation raised what it described as US violations of its commitments under the Memorandum of Understanding on ending the imposed war.
Iran stressed that all obligations contained in the memorandum form a single package and cannot be implemented selectively.
Gharibabadi also announced the establishment of an immediate communication channel for the monitoring group beginning Thursday to report violations related to the memorandum, alongside specialized working groups tasked with overseeing implementation.
Doha Meetings Focus on Implementation
Earlier in the day, Gharibabadi met Qatari Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani at the head of an Iranian delegation that included officials from the Foreign Ministry, the Central Bank, and the Ministry of Agriculture.
The meeting reviewed implementation of the Memorandum of Understanding on Ending the Imposed War, with particular attention to its Lebanon-related provisions, remaining obstacles, and ways to accelerate implementation while expanding bilateral cooperation.
The session was followed by a trilateral meeting between the chief negotiators of Iran, Qatar, and Pakistan to assess progress on implementing the memorandum.
Gharibabadi also said Iran and Qatar agreed to use part of Tehran’s $6 billion in previously frozen assets to purchase goods required by Iran. (PW)
