Iran Rejects False Report of Meeting with Trump’s Envoy
Iran firmly Denies the claim by US envoy Steve Witkoff of meeting Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi, stressing no direct contact with Washington has taken place.
Iran, PUREWILAYAH.COM - Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi firmly denied reports of a recent conversation with Steve Witkoff, a special envoy to US President Donald Trump, dismissing claims circulated by some Western outlets as “not true.”
Speaking to Tasnim News Agency, Araqchi stressed that no direct contact or conversation has taken place between Tehran and Washington.
Witkoff had claimed he met with the Iranian side on September 16 and proposed immediate negotiations toward a temporary agreement.
Tehran flatly rejects Witkoff’s account, underscoring Iran’s position against speculative Western narratives that attempt to portray back-channel diplomacy.
Focus on the United Nations
Meanwhile, Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei confirmed on Sunday that Araqchi will travel to New York at the head of a diplomatic delegation to participate in the annual session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA).
Araqchi is set to accompany President Masoud Pezeshkian in the UNGA high-level meetings, while also attending various sessions related to the global agenda. The trip will include:
Presenting Iran’s official positions on key international and regional issues.
Meeting counterparts from various countries for bilateral and multilateral discussions.
Engaging in strategic consultations on pressing international challenges.
Strengthening Iran’s Diplomatic Standing
Tehran’s clear rejection of fabricated reports about secret talks with Washington, coupled with Araqchi’s active engagement at the UNGA, highlights Iran’s independent and transparent diplomatic course.
Rather than yielding to Western media spin or US pressure tactics, Iran is projecting itself as a confident regional power, articulating its vision directly on the world stage and reinforcing alliances through principled diplomacy. (PW)
