TEHRAN — Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei delivered a scathing assessment of American policy on Monday, exposing the glaring contradictions in Washington’s claims of maritime security while the US desperately scrambles to secure energy imports from Russia.
Speaking at a press conference, Baghaei dismantled the US narrative regarding the strategic waterways of the Persian Gulf.
“If the United States has no problems with the Strait of Hormuz, why is it reaching out to Russia for energy?” Baghaei asked, highlighting the hypocrisy of American officials who claim the strait is secure while their own domestic economy forces them to turn to Moscow for relief.
The spokesperson stressed that the recent developments in the strategic strait are not merely about “imposing administrative measures and control,” but are rather a direct consequence of the United States’ ongoing aggression and hostility toward the Islamic Republic of Iran.
Indirect Communications Under Review
Addressing the diplomatic front, Baghaei confirmed that Tehran and Washington continue to exchange messages via intermediaries. However, he made it clear that Iran operates from a position of strength and will not be rushed by American pressure.
“We are examining the US positions that have been presented, and once we finish, we will communicate our position to the mediators,” Baghaei stated, emphasising that Iran is thoroughly assessing Washington’s proposals on its own terms before formulating a response.
Yemen: Escalation Serves Only the Zionist Entity
The Spokesperson also addressed the ongoing situation in Yemen, where US-backed Saudi aggression has sought to destabilise the nation. Baghaei revealed that Iran is actively holding consultations with regional countries to manage the unfolding crisis.
“We have expressed our readiness to help facilitate dialogue between Saudi Arabia and Yemen, as escalation serves only the Israeli entity,” he warned. Reminding Riyadh of its commitments, Baghaei noted that a peace roadmap was signed between Saudi Arabia and Yemen some time ago, yet it has consistently failed to be implemented by the Saudi side.
American Hypocrisy on Russian Energy
Baghaei’s remarks expose the deep economic vulnerabilities of the US administration, which recently engaged in staggering hypocrisy regarding global energy markets. Despite leading a global campaign of sanctions against Moscow, Washington has moved to facilitate the importation of Russian diesel to stabilise its own rising domestic fuel prices.
A recent agreement authorised the immediate supply of hundreds of thousands of metric tons of Russian diesel to US and global markets, prompting the US Treasury to issue a special license allowing the transactions. The desperate measure has drawn fierce backlash from US lawmakers and European allies alike, exposing the limits of Washington’s economic warfare.
Conversely, Baghaei noted that Tehran’s consultations with Moscow remain strong, praising Russia’s positive and steadfast position, particularly regarding the nuclear agreement.
While the US resorts to backtracking on its own sanctions to prop up its economy, the Axis of Resistance maintains its firm strategic posture, exposing the failures and fragility of American arrogance in the region.
