Iran: European Snapback Mechanism Will Not Affect Defense Capabilities
Defense Ministry Spokesman Reza Talaee Nik Dismisses EU3 Action as Politically Motivated and Ineffective
Iran, PUREWILAYAH.COM – The Iranian Defense Ministry has dismissed the European troika’s decision to invoke the snapback mechanism of the 2015 nuclear deal, stating that the move will have no impact on Iran’s defense or combat capabilities.
Speaking on Saturday in Iran’s western city of Sanandaj, Brigadier General Reza Talaee Nik, the ministry’s spokesperson and deputy for planning and parliamentary affairs, emphasized that Tehran remains confident in its military strength despite renewed sanctions pressure.
Snapback Mechanism ‘Has No Effect on Iran’s Defense Power’
General Talaee Nik described the decision by the UK, France, and Germany to trigger the snapback mechanism of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) as irrelevant to Iran’s military preparedness.
“Snapback would have no effect on Iran’s defense and combat power, because we are in the process of historical success,” he said, noting that Iran is ranked among the world’s top ten missile powers and has become one of the major arms producers through indigenous, knowledge-based defense manufacturing.
Military Preparedness at Peak Since June Conflict
The spokesperson stressed that Iran’s Armed Forces are fully prepared to confront any hostile schemes.
He pointed out that the Defense Ministry’s combat, defense, and logistical readiness has further increased since the 12-day imposed war in June, underscoring Tehran’s ability to withstand external pressures and military challenges.
Europe’s Most Serious Move Since U.S. Withdrawal
In a significant escalation, the European troika – the UK, France, and Germany – has formally sent a letter to the UN Security Council announcing the activation of the so-called snapback mechanism.
This step aims to re-impose international sanctions on Iran and marks the most serious action by the EU3 against Tehran since the United States withdrew from the JCPOA in 2018.
Iranian officials have strongly denounced the European measure, calling it both illegal and politically motivated.
Tehran has argued that the EU3 lacks any legal standing to invoke the snapback provision, citing Europe’s failure to meet its own obligations under the nuclear accord.
Officials warned that the decision would compel a “decisive reciprocal response,” undermine cooperation with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), and cause lasting damage to the credibility of the UN Security Council. (PW)
