Iran Dismisses Reports of Russian Call to Halt Uranium Enrichment
The reports were misleading and that no such initiative had been officially raised by Moscow in the context of current diplomatic exchanges between the two countries
Iran, PUREWILAYAH.COM - Iran remains firm in its position that uranium enrichment must continue on its own soil, with diplomatic sources confirming that Russia also upholds this principle regarding Iran’s nuclear program. The sources emphasized that no shift has occurred in Moscow’s longstanding support for Tehran’s right to pursue peaceful nuclear development within its own territory.
Addressing recent media claims, the sources denied that Iran has received any proposal from Russia suggesting a halt to domestic uranium enrichment. They clarified that the reports were misleading and that no such initiative had been officially raised by Moscow in the context of current diplomatic exchanges between the two countries.
The sources noted that prior to the latest wave of Israeli aggression, Russia had supported a specific idea during negotiations between Tehran and Washington.
That proposal involved the temporary transfer of uranium enriched beyond 3.67% to Russian territory, as part of an earlier effort to reach a broader agreement under a different negotiation framework.
Nonetheless, Iran has reiterated that it will not accept any arrangement that undermines its sovereign right to enrich uranium on its own soil.
Iranian officials insist that any future deal must fully recognize and preserve Iran’s entitlement to peaceful nuclear activity under international law. This reaffirmation comes as Tehran signals a conditional openness to renewed diplomacy following the disruption of talks caused by recent Israeli-American military actions.
Iran Reaffirms Enrichment Rights Within National Borders
Officials emphasized that Iran categorically rejects any initiative that undermines its sovereign right to enrich uranium within its own territory. Tehran remains committed to the peaceful nature of its nuclear program and views its enrichment capability as a non-negotiable element of national sovereignty.
This stance reflects a long-standing position that Iran will not yield to pressures that seek to outsource or limit its domestic nuclear activities under the guise of non-proliferation.
Iran Expresses Openness to Talks with Preconditions
Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, in an interview with the French newspaper Le Monde on July 10, stated that Iran remains open to resuming nuclear talks with the United States—provided that clear conditions are met. These include enforceable guarantees against future military strikes, mutual respect, and acknowledgment of past failures in U.S. policy.
Araghchi emphasized that diplomacy remains central to Iran’s foreign policy, but added that the path forward depends on a substantial shift in Washington’s approach.
Broken Trust: Iranian Officials Criticize U.S. Hypocrisy
Iranian officials have voiced deep skepticism over recent messages from the United States signaling a desire to return to negotiations. They argue that continued hostility, including the latest attack on Iranian nuclear facilities, has severely damaged any remaining trust.
One senior official noted that “negotiations require a minimum level of trust, and the blatant aggression has practically erased that foundation.” The fact that such attacks occurred even as indirect communications were ongoing has further reinforced Iran’s wariness.
Tehran Demands Transparency and Security in Diplomacy
Despite the recent tensions, Iran continues to advocate for a diplomatic resolution—so long as it is grounded in fairness, transparency, and respect for its rights. It has been confirmed that Washington, through mediators from various countries, has expressed interest in resuming discussions. However, Tehran has made it clear that any future talks must be based on concrete guarantees, not vague promises.
Iran insists that it will not engage in any agreement that compromises its security or its sovereign control over peaceful nuclear capabilities. (PW)
