Iran Destroys $1.1 Billion US AN/FPS-132 Radar, Strikes Fifth Fleet Command
Iran strikes key pillars of U.S. missile-defense and naval power in response to joint U.S.–Israeli aggression
Iran | PUREWILAYAH.COM — The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) announced that Iranian forces have destroyed the U.S. AN/FPS-132 early-warning radar system in Qatar and targeted the headquarters of the U.S. Navy’s Fifth Fleet in Bahrain, marking a significant escalation in Iran’s retaliatory operations against American and Zionist military infrastructure in the region.
The strikes were carried out as part of Operation True Promise 4, launched in response to what Tehran describes as joint U.S.–Israeli aggression against Iranian territory.
AN/FPS-132 Radar in Qatar Destroyed
In an official statement, the IRGC confirmed that Iranian forces successfully destroyed the AN/FPS-132 ballistic-missile early-warning radar deployed at a U.S. base in Qatar. The radar is a critical component of the American missile-defense architecture in the Persian Gulf.
Iranian state television reported that the radar was destroyed using a Shahed-136 unmanned aerial vehicle, demonstrating the vulnerability of high-value U.S. strategic assets to Iranian strike capabilities.
The AN/FPS-132 system, stationed at the Qatar Early Warning Radar (QEWR) complex near Al-Khor, is operated and controlled by the United States. The Block-5 radar provides 360-degree phased-array coverage with a reported detection range of up to 5,000 kilometers, feeding early-warning and tracking data into U.S. and allied missile-defense networks.
According to U.S. Defense Security Cooperation Agency documentation, the system’s cost is estimated at approximately USD 1.1 billion, underscoring the strategic and financial significance of the strike.
IRGC Targets U.S. Fifth Fleet Headquarters
In Announcement No. 2 following the start of Operation True Promise 4, the IRGC stated that missiles and drones struck the headquarters of the U.S. Navy’s Fifth Fleet in Bahrain, along with other American military installations in Qatar, the United Arab Emirates, and military and security centers in the heart of the occupied territories.
The statement described the operation as the first phase of a wider campaign, emphasizing that Iranian Armed Forces are confronting “the criminal U.S. army and the child-killing Zionist regime” with sustained and coordinated strikes.
Ongoing Missile and Drone Operations AS Response to U.S.–Israeli Aggression
The IRGC confirmed that missile and drone attacks are ongoing, warning that further details will be announced as operations continue. The statement signals that Iran’s response is not limited to a single strike, but part of a broader and continuing military campaign across the region.
The latest operations follow joint U.S.–Israeli strikes on Iran, which targeted sites in Tehran and other Iranian cities. Israeli officials labeled the attacks “pre-emptive,” a claim rejected by Iranian authorities, who described the strikes as an unprovoked assault on Iranian sovereignty carried out amid ongoing diplomatic processes.
Iran’s Supreme National Security Council stated that the Iranian people were targeted in a coordinated U.S.–Israeli attack and confirmed that a decisive retaliatory response had been launched. The council warned that further enemy attacks remain possible, while assuring the public that essential supplies have been secured and emergency measures implemented.
Regional Escalation
Iran’s destruction of a core U.S. early-warning radar and the targeting of the Fifth Fleet headquarters represent direct strikes on American command, surveillance, and deterrence capabilities in West Asia.
The actions underscore Tehran’s position that U.S. bases and assets across the region are legitimate targets as long as American and Israeli aggression continues.
As missile and drone operations persist, the confrontation is expanding beyond isolated exchanges into a region-wide military confrontation, with responsibility for escalation resting squarely on Washington and Tel Aviv. (PW)
