Iran Condemns Israeli Drone Strike on Gaza-Bound Humanitarian Ship
Tehran Labels Attack on ‘The Conscience’ as a War Crime and Calls for International Accountability
Tehran, PUREWILAYAH.COM – Iran’s Foreign Ministry has strongly condemned an Israeli drone attack on ‘The Conscience,’ a civilian ship carrying humanitarian aid and activists to Gaza, labelling the incident a terrorist act and a violation of international law.
The vessel, part of the Freedom Flotilla Coalition, was reportedly struck by drones in international waters off Malta early Friday. Images circulating on social media depicted explosions and fires aboard the ship. The attack disabled the vessel, which was en route to deliver essential supplies to the besieged Gaza Strip.
Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baqaei stated,
“The attack on ‘The Conscience’ ship was carried out in line with the colonial project of genocide and extermination of the Palestinian people.”
He emphasised that targeting an unarmed civilian vessel constitutes a terrorist act against maritime security and a blatant breach of international humanitarian law.
Baqaei further asserted that depriving Gaza’s wounded, sick, and vulnerable populations of food, water, and medicine amounts to a war crime and a crime against humanity. He called upon the international community and Islamic nations to condemn Israel’s actions and hold its officials accountable.
The Freedom Flotilla Coalition, comprising various international organisations, aims to challenge the Israeli blockade of Gaza by delivering humanitarian aid directly to the territory. The attack on ‘The Conscience’ marks a significant escalation in the ongoing tensions surrounding aid delivery to Gaza.(PW)
