Iran Appoints New IRGC Intelligence Chief
The Islamic Revolution Guard Corps (IRGC) has appointed Majid Khademi as the new head of its Intelligence Organization, following the assassination of the previous chief, General Mohammad Kazemi
Iran, PUREWILAYAH.COM - The Islamic Revolution Guard Corps (IRGC) has appointed Majid Khademi as the new head of its Intelligence Organization, following the assassination of the previous chief, General Mohammad Kazemi, in last week's Israeli airstrike targeting Iranian territory, RIA Novosti reported on Thursday.
According to Iran’s Fars News Agency, Khademi will officially assume leadership of the IRGC’s intelligence department, succeeding Kazemi, who was killed in an Israeli aerial assault that struck residential areas in Tehran.
On June 15, the IRGC confirmed the martyrdom of three senior intelligence commanders:
General Mohammad Kazemi, head of the IRGC Intelligence Organization
General Hassan Mohaqeq, his deputy
General Mohsen Bagheri
All three were killed in a wave of Israeli strikes that hit civilian-populated neighborhoods in the Iranian capital.
General Kazemi had been appointed to his position on June 23, 2022, by IRGC Commander-in-Chief Major General Hossein Salami, who was also martyred in the recent attacks.
Iranian Armed Forces Undergo Major Leadership Reshuffle
In response to the targeted assassinations, Iranian Leader Ayatollah Sayyed Ali Khamenei has undertaken a significant reorganization of the country’s top military command.
Major General Abdolrahim Mousavi, formerly the Commander of Iran’s Army, has been named as the new Chief of Staff of the Iranian Armed Forces, replacing Major General Mohammad Hossein Bagheri, who was martyred during the June 13 Israeli aggression.
This appointment marks a key shift in the leadership structure of Iran’s military establishment.
New IRGC Commander-in-Chief and Khatam HQ Leadership Named
The IRGC has also named a new Commander-in-Chief:
Brigadier General Mohammad Pakpour, previously head of the IRGC Ground Forces, has been promoted to lead the IRGC following the martyrdom of Major General Hossein Salami.
In another significant move, Brigadier General Ali Shadmani has been promoted to Major General and appointed as the new commander of Khatam al-Anbiya Central Headquarters, taking over from Major General Gholam Ali Rashid, who was killed alongside his son in the Israeli strike.
These appointments underscore Iran’s effort to swiftly restructure its defense leadership in the wake of unprecedented losses among its top-ranking officers. (PW)
