Iran and Saudi Arabia Deepen Strategic Dialogue in Riyadh
Ali Larijani stresses expanded cooperation in economy, security, and defense during talks with Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman.
Iran, PUREWILAYAH.COM - Iran and Saudi Arabia have taken another step in their rapprochement as Ali Larijani, Secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council, met with Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman in Riyadh on Tuesday afternoon.
The high-level meeting addressed the future of West Asia, conditions of Islamic countries, and ways to boost bilateral ties.
Expanding Cooperation
After the meeting, Larijani highlighted a mutual determination to strengthen relations. “We emphasized strengthening cooperation between Iran and Saudi Arabia,” he said, adding that both sides aimed to expand economic and security cooperation in a more structured way.
Larijani noted that trade between the two countries remains limited. “During this meeting, we discussed economic collaboration, since the level of trade between our countries is currently low and some obstacles need to be removed,” he stated.
Defense and Regional Stability
Defense cooperation was also a key subject. “We discussed defense cooperation between the two countries, which will be conducted within working groups and, God willing, will take a more structured form in the future,” Larijani explained.
Commenting on broader regional dynamics, he remarked that Arab states had reassessed their strategies following the attack on Qatar. “Countries of the region have concluded that the presence of a reckless element will prevent stability, as Iran has stated previously,” he said.
Additional Meeting with Saudi Defense Minister
Larijani also held a separate meeting with Saudi Defense Minister Khalid bin Salman Al Saud.
Both officials reviewed past agreements and explored new areas of cooperation, particularly in defense.
Khalid expressed his gratitude for the hospitality extended to him during his visit to Tehran in April this year.
Expanding Regional Diplomacy
Riyadh marked Larijani’s third regional destination since he assumed office on August 5, following visits to Iraq and Lebanon. His active diplomacy reflects Iran’s determination to foster constructive relations and promote stability across West Asia through dialogue and cooperation. (PW)
