Iran Warns UN of Retaliation Over Israeli Threats
In the face of any threat or unlawful action, the Islamic Republic will respond with determination. Iran will take all necessary measures to defend its people, interests, and infrastructure
Iran – PUREWILAYAH.COM – In a formal letter addressed to top international bodies, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi issued a stern warning against any potential Israeli military strike on Iran’s nuclear facilities, vowing a firm and lawful response while holding the United States accountable for any resulting escalation.
Addressed to UN Secretary-General António Guterres, the President of the UN Security Council, and the Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) , the letters condemned the Israeli regime for persistently issuing threats that violate international law and jeopardize both regional and global peace.
“In the face of any threat or unlawful action, the Islamic Republic of Iran will respond with determination,” Araghchi declared in the letter. “Iran will take all necessary measures to defend its people, interests, and infrastructure from terrorist or sabotage activities, in accordance with international law.”
Araghchi emphasized that Israel’s open talk of striking Iran’s nuclear facilities constitutes a grave violation of the UN Charter. He urged the UN Security Council to adopt “urgent and effective” measures to confront what he called Tel Aviv’s “reckless and destabilizing conduct.”
Call for Impartiality from the IAEA
The letter also directed a message to the International Atomic Energy Agency, calling on the organization to maintain a firm and unbiased position, especially in light of the repeated threats to Iranian nuclear infrastructure—facilities that remain under constant monitoring by the IAEA.
Araghchi reaffirmed the peaceful nature of Iran’s nuclear program, stating:
“Repeated IAEA reports confirm its compliance and civilian purpose.”
He added:
“This letter draws your attention to the growing number of threats by the Zionist regime to strike Iran's peaceful nuclear infrastructure. Such threats are not only unlawful but endanger international security.”
Nuclear Standoff: Israeli Strike Could Derail Diplomacy
The timing of the letter comes as U.S. media outlets report rising concern over possible Israeli action. According to CNN, unnamed American officials revealed that “Israel may be preparing to launch a military strike on Iran’s nuclear sites.” The report warned that such a move could mark a dangerous break from previous U.S. policy and potentially ignite a broader regional conflict.
Araghchi noted that in the event of an Israeli strike, the United States could not evade responsibility. He argued that Washington’s political and military support for Israel renders it complicit in any aggression committed by the occupying regime.
Iranian Parliament Reiterates Nuclear Rights
Echoing the foreign ministry’s stance, the Iranian Parliament issued a statement reaffirming that Tehran would not abandon its nuclear rights under any circumstances.
Lawmakers stressed that Iran has no ambition to obtain nuclear weapons and remains committed to its obligations under the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons (NPT).
Diplomatic Track: Iran-U.S. Talks to Resume in Rome
In a parallel development, Omani Foreign Minister Badr bin Hamad Al Busaidi confirmed on Wednesday that Iran and the United States are scheduled to resume indirect nuclear negotiations on May 23 in Rome.
The new round of talks is seen as a critical attempt to defuse tensions and revive diplomatic pathways, even as threats of military conflict loom large. (PW)
