Hezbollah’s Sheikh Qassem: Lebanon Must Reclaim Sovereignty, Rejects Disarmament
Leader calls U.S. pressure a violation of national dignity, urges Lebanese unity against external dictates
Beirut, PUREWILAYAH.COM - Hezbollah’s Secretary-General, Sheikh Naim Qassem, has firmly rejected any attempts to disarm the Lebanese Resistance, stressing that Lebanon must first reclaim its sovereignty before such discussions can even take place.
In a speech delivered on Sunday, Sheikh Qassem described the issue of disarmament as “non-charter-based,” arguing that it undermines Lebanon’s independence and dignity. He warned that yielding to such demands would strip the country of its strength and expose it to foreign domination.
Qassem pointed to persistent U.S. interference as the driving force behind disarmament calls, saying Washington seeks to weaken Lebanon by targeting its Resistance. He affirmed that Hezbollah’s weapons are not negotiable while parts of Lebanese sovereignty remain compromised.
“The Resistance,” he said, “is not a rival to the Lebanese Army but rather its partner in protecting the nation. The army is the foundation, and the Resistance provides essential support in defending Lebanon.”
He also urged political leaders, citizens, and the media to rally behind the principle of sovereignty, encouraging a unified demand for the government to safeguard Lebanon’s independence from outside dictates.
Sheikh Qassem concluded by reaffirming that the Resistance’s weapons are a guarantee of Lebanon’s honour, dignity, and security, warning that any attempt to remove them would face strong opposition. (PW)
