Hezbollah Vows “Karbala-Style” Resistance if Disarmament Forces Continue
On Arbaeen, Secretary‑General Sheikh Naim Qassem declares that Hezbollah will never surrender its weapons amid Israeli aggression and accuses Lebanon’s government of abetting foreign agendas.

Beirut, PUREWILAYAH.COM – Speaking to followers on Arbaeen, Hezbollah Secretary-General Sheikh Naim Qassem delivered a defiant message: Hezbollah will not disarm as long as Israeli aggression persists, and stands ready to wage a Karbala-style battle if necessary.
Invoking the spiritual legacy of Imam Hussein’s martyrdom, Sheikh Qassem cast the Resistance as heirs to Karbala’s legacy of sacrifice and steadfastness, and positioned Hezbollah as a contemporary embodiment of that spiritual struggle. He stressed that followers must choose between aligning with Hussein’s path or siding with oppressive forces, likening the U.S. and Israel to the historic figure Yazid.
Reflecting on Hezbollah’s 2006 victory, Sheikh Qassem celebrated it as a sign of divine favour and a deterrent that kept Israel at bay for nearly two decades. He also reaffirmed solidarity with Iran, declaring that “the flag of resistance will remain raised,” and asserted that Lebanese sovereignty depends on the Resistance. He criticised the Lebanese government’s August 5 decision—interpreted as an attempt to strip Hezbollah of its arms—as serving Israeli and U.S. schemes .
Sheikh Qassem went as far as to declare that “there will be no life in Lebanon” if the government contests Hezbollah, holding the state accountable for any resulting internal strife and warning of events spinning beyond control . He accused the cabinet of carrying out a dangerous decision that violates Lebanon’s social compact and jeopardises national security .
Yet, in a tactical gesture of restraint, he said Hezbollah and its ally Amal Movement are currently delaying public protests to allow for dialogue, though warned protests could later reach as far as the U.S. Embassy .
Summary
Sheikh Naim Qassem’s remarks on August 15, 2025 during the Arbaeen commemoration conveyed a clear message: Hezbollah remains unwavering in its armed stance against Israeli and U.S. influence. By invoking the spiritual symbolism of Karbala and framing conflict as both moral and existential, Qassem positioned the Resistance as central to Lebanon’s sovereignty, while casting the government’s disarmament efforts as betrayal. Tensions now simmer, with Hezbollah granting temporary space for dialogue—even as it warns of greater confrontation if its demands are not respected. (PW)
