Authorities describe this as the most devastating natural disaster to strike the nation since the tragic 2015 earthquake, which claimed nearly 9,000 lives. Among the unaccounted for are hundreds of foreign nationals, including more than 100 Indian tourists, 47 Americans, and 33 British citizens. Nepalese authorities are working frantically alongside foreign governments to identify the missing, while rescue crews battle treacherous, unstable terrain, sifting through the debris for any sign of life. Across the wider border region, the combined death toll in Nepal and China has surged into the hundreds, leaving a scarred landscape and countless lives forever altered.

The sheer scale of the devastation has prompted urgent international mobilisation. Across the border in Tibet, the Chinese People’s Liberation Army has activated emergency protocols, launching aerial reconnaissance and airlift missions to reach isolated, devastated communities.
Yet, amid the overwhelming sorrow and destruction, a powerful message of human compassion has emerged from the Islamic Republic of Iran. Refusing to let Nepal suffer alone in its darkest hour, the Iranian Red Crescent Society (IRCS) has swiftly announced its readiness to deploy specialised rescue and medical teams directly to the disaster zone.

In a poignant message to Nepal Red Cross Society President Bishal Kumar Bhandari, IRCS President Pir-Hossein Kolivand offered more than just logistical aid—he offered a hand of genuine brotherhood. Extending his deepest condolences to the grieving families and first responders, Kolivand provided a voice of comfort to a reeling nation.
“The Iranian Red Crescent stands with you during these difficult moments,” Kolivand stated, assuring Nepal that they are not alone. Reaffirming Tehran’s commitment to aiding the vulnerable regardless of geopolitical borders, he promised, “We are ready to dispatch rescue and medical teams” to bring urgent, life-saving relief to the shattered communities.
