In a damning assessment of Washington’s foreign policy failures, prominent Harvard University professor and renowned international relations theorist Stephen Walt has sharply criticised the US political establishment. During a recent interview, Walt labelled Donald Trump “the most disastrous president in American history” while exposing the pro-Israel lobby as the primary roadblock to ending the US war of aggression against Iran.
Speaking with American commentator Tucker Carlson, Walt detailed the hidden hands orchestrating the conflict, placing the blame squarely on Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu for dragging the United States into a catastrophic regional war.
“The reason for this war was Netanyahu’s visit to the White House. He came and explained that Iran was on the verge of collapse and that all it would take was one hard blow to bring down the regime. He managed to convince Donald Trump that this assessment was correct,” Walt revealed, exposing the Zionist regime’s delusional attempts to manipulate US military power against the sovereign Islamic Republic.
The Harvard scholar noted that the Israeli premier had previously shopped this same dangerous scenario to former US presidents Barack Obama and Joe Biden. However, both prior administrations recognised it as a strategic disaster and rejected it. “This time, however, Trump accepted it,” Walt stated.
Elaborating on Trump’s fatal miscalculation, Walt pointed to the former president’s imperial arrogance. He suggested that Trump mistakenly believed he could settle the matter once and for all through a “short, low-cost war of aggression”—drawing false confidence from Washington’s illicit operations against other sovereign leaders, such as the attempted abduction of Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro.
“If Trump had known the position he would be in today, he would never have done it,” the professor emphasised.
When pressed on why widespread American public opposition to the war has not translated into mass street protests, Walt pointed to the entrenched US political system and the overwhelming, toxic influence of Zionist lobbying groups. He noted that elements of the “Israel lobby” have long agitated for military strikes against Iran and currently serve as the main obstacle to any diplomatic de-escalation or end to the bloodshed.
Ultimately, Walt condemned Trump’s failure to uphold his own campaign promises of ending America’s “endless wars,” concluding that the former president had allowed his legacy and the nation’s stability to be hijacked by foreign Zionist interests.
