In a significant escalation of cyber operations against the Zionist entity, the resistance-aligned hacking group Handala announced on Sunday a massive breach of the Israeli military’s Media Intelligence Monitoring and Analysis Unit.
The group successfully exfiltrated and published more than 500 classified documents alongside tens of thousands of internal communications, delivering a severe blow to the occupation’s claimed technological supremacy.
The targeted military unit is responsible for combing through both domestic and international media on behalf of the Israeli army. It operates in close coordination with the regime’s notorious cyber espionage division, Unit 8200, and the military censor. Handala described the infiltration as a critical strike against Israel’s information security infrastructure, adding that it will soon release the unit’s full organisational structure to further expose the depth of its access to military intelligence networks.
Mapping Public Sentiment and Internal Dissent
An initial analysis of the leaked data reveals a sprawling surveillance apparatus obsessed with tracking its own population and shaping the narrative around the war on Gaza. A significant sample of the release contains over 11,200 posts from X (formerly Twitter) catalogued under the label “Israeli Media,” primarily gathered in January 2024.
The files show the military assigning a “normalised influence” score—ranging from zero to 78—to thousands of individual accounts, regardless of their actual follower count. The leaked trove highlights intense internal divisions within Israeli society, with thousands of posts detailing fierce arguments among Israelis regarding the regime’s conduct, the captives held in Gaza, and widespread rhetoric demanding extreme violence and ethnic cleansing.
Furthermore, the documents reveal that the military has been closely monitoring prominent Israeli journalists and war correspondents—including Yoav Limor, Amir Bohbot, and Yoav Zitun—tracking their reporting since well before October 2023.
A Pattern of Humiliation for the Israeli Establishment
This latest operation is part of a relentless digital campaign by Handala that has repeatedly dismantled the Israeli regime’s myth of cyber invincibility. The group has previously compromised the personal devices and email accounts of top-tier Israeli political and military figures, including former defence ministers Ehud Barak and Benny Gantz, war cabinet member Gadi Eisenkot, and former prime minister Naftali Bennett.
In recent months, Handala has also exposed 19,000 files attributed to former army chief Herzi Halevi, leaked private communications of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s close aides, and even breached the personal emails of U.S. FBI Director Kash Patel.
As the Zionist regime continues to rely heavily on Western backing and technological superiority to mask its military failures, each successful penetration by resistance hackers strips away another layer of its facade, exposing the deep vulnerabilities at the heart of the occupation’s security apparatus.
