Hamas Welcomes US Presbyterian Church’s Call to Boycott Israel
The Palestinian resistance movement welcomed the US Presbyterian Church’s decision calling for a boycott of Israel, an arms embargo, and recognition of the war on Gaza as genocide.
PALESTINE, PUREWILAYAH.COM – The Islamic Resistance Movement Hamas welcomed the decision of the Presbyterian Church (USA) calling for a boycott of the Israeli occupation, an end to arms exports to Israel, and recognizing the war on the Gaza Strip as an act of genocide.
In a press statement, Hamas said the church’s position reflects the values of justice and humanity while expressing moral responsibility toward the ongoing violations committed against the Palestinian people.
Church Recognizes Gaza War as Genocide
Hamas said the decision comes as the Israeli occupation continues its war against civilians in the Gaza Strip while failing to uphold its commitments under the ceasefire agreement.
The movement also welcomed the church’s recognition that the war on Gaza amounts to genocide, describing the decision as particularly significant amid what it called the international community’s failure to hold Israel accountable for crimes committed against the Palestinian people.
Hamas praised every decision and measure that contributes to ending Israeli violations in Gaza, calling on religious and political institutions to urgently act to assist the people of the Strip and expose what it described as the occupation government’s plans to continue the genocidal war.
One of America’s Largest Protestant Denominations
The Presbyterian Church (USA) is one of the largest Protestant denominations in the United States and has a long history of political and social engagement. Its democratic structure grants its General Assembly the authority to adopt official positions on international issues.
Over the past decades, the church has maintained a rights-based approach toward the Palestinian cause, grounded in principles of social justice, opposition to Israeli settlements, and support for human rights. This has made it one of the most outspoken religious institutions in the United States in criticizing Israeli policies and supporting the rights of the Palestinian people.
Resolution Passed by Overwhelming Majority
The church’s Presidential Committee announced that the 227th General Assembly adopted the resolution by 454 votes to 15.
The assembly convened from June 22 to July 2 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
The resolution also called on the United States to impose an arms embargo on Israel, stating that the continued flow of weapons contributes to prolonging crimes committed against Palestinian civilians. (PW)
