The Movement Warns of Expanding Colonial Scheme Targeting the Heart of the West Bank
Palestine, PUREWILAYAH.COM - The Islamic Resistance Movement Hamas on Thursday condemned the Israeli occupation’s approval of 1,973 new settlement units in the occupied West Bank—just one day after authorizing 1,300 units in the “Gush Etzion” settlement bloc.
The movement affirmed that this marks a dangerous escalation in the policy of settlement expansion and Judaization targeting the core of Palestinian land deep inside the West Bank.
In an official statement sent to the Palestinian Information Center, Hamas said these rapid approvals come within a campaign led by extremist Minister Bezalel Smotrich, in the framework of the occupation government’s attempts to impose a comprehensive settlement reality that severs the West Bank and isolates Al-Quds from its Palestinian surroundings.
“Flagrant Violation of International Law”
Hamas stressed that these settlement plans constitute a flagrant violation of international law and United Nations resolutions, which criminalize settlement construction on Palestinian land.
The movement added that the occupation government is moving forward with its creeping annexation project, disregarding international warnings and calls for an immediate halt to these settlement activities.
Call to the International Community
Hamas called on the international community and its institutions to assume their legal and political responsibilities regarding this escalating settlement campaign, emphasizing that global double standards in dealing with the occupation encourage continued settlement crimes and land theft in Palestine.
